Baseball Preview: Diamond Hawks Head To CAA Newcomer Elon For Weekend Series
ELON, North Carolina – The Seahawks return to conference play this weekend when they visit Colonial Athletic Association newcomer Elon for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
UNCW dropped a tough 6-5 decision to visiting North Carolina in a showdown of two nationally-ranked programs. The Tar Heels ran out to a 5-1 lead before the Seahawks drew even in the fourth inning. From there it was a battle of the bullpens as neither scored until the 12th inning. UNC plated the go-ahead run on a balk in the 12th and UNCW got the tying run around to third, but was unable to tie the game.
The Seahawks (11-1) lead the CAA by percentage points over preseason favorite College of Charleston (13-2), who has the weekend off from conference play. UNCW moved to the front following a road sweep at Hofstra while CofC dropped the finale of a road series at Delaware.
Elon enters the weekend tied for third in the conference race with William & Mary at 9-6. The Phoenix have won four of their last five, including a series win against Towson last weekend.
The Seahawks will send Nick Monroe, Ryan Foster and Josh Roberson to the hill this weekend while Elon has yet to announce its rotation.
Following Friday's night game, the series continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. and concludes on Sunday with first-pitch slated for 1:30 p.m.
