Makes sense. They're more stuck on tradition than the Fiddler on the Roof.

Rose Bowl doesn't have the luxury seats and bells and whistles to really pull off the National Championship that the CFP is looking for. Watch out for Orlando, Houston, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis (new stadium) to get a national championship game even with out an Access Bowl game. Also Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, and Miami (forgot Phoenix) with who already host an Access Bowl. Atlanta will probably get one the year of the their new stadium being completed.

sounds pretty much like the same sites that bid on Super Bowls.

I'm sure Kronke's new stadium will fit the bill just nicely. And I'm not sure if the renovation and modernization of the Citrus Bowl will be enough to warrant hosting the Championship Game.

This. I would love to see another national championship at the Rose Bowl and it would love to host one. It's the most picturesque setting by far in my mind and it's got a ton of tradition to boot.
Unfortunately, this is a bidding process and the Rose Bowl cannot generate the kind of money that stadiums with all the luxury seats can. That probably means that the 2014 BCS National Championship was the last national championship we'll see there.

But, the new LA stadium could be a possibility.
Wherever it is, you want plenty of hotel rooms, and easy access via car or plane.

If that stadium gets built and it looks more likely now that Carson itself has signed on, then I'd say its probable that that stadium will be the focus of a bid for Los Angeles. Makes perfect sense really. I wouldn't be surprised to see NJ/NY make a bid ala the Super Bowl. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them get it as a one-off.

I really miss this being tied to the bowls, but that's the direction they choose to take it. I agree Los Angles will get it eventually and it sadly won't be the historic Rose Bowl, but instead be a new NFL stadium with no college history.

True. But it specifically says "the Rose Bowl" will not bid: not the city of Los Angeles (or surrounding area).

It will be LA's version of Jerry World. The NFL and its empire building drives these stadium decisions. Build another Taj Mahal every 20 years and tear down the old barn. The Orange Bowl stadium might still be there if the Dolphins had stayed and rebuilt it instead of building their own stadium in the suburbs.
The Rose Bowl stadium is still there because of the history of the game and the parade and the ties to Pasadena, and because they were able to get it renovated while the NFL was on sabbatical. If Kroenke or Goldman Sachs or AEG or whomever had built an LA Jerry World 15 or 20 years ago, maybe UCLA moves in there, the Rose Bowl stadium doesn't get renovated, and maybe they would have eventually moved the Rose Bowl game into the NFL stadium.

Well at least in the case of the Rose Bowl, it's been standing for about a century. No need to get rid of Georgia Dome.
