O/T and pretty irrelevant: My avatar for today (and 4 weeks late)
When the Eastern Michigan Eagles (women) travelled to Hattiesburg to play the Southern Mississippi Eagles (WNIT), some enterprising So. Miss fan had to deal with how to root for the Eagles during a game with Eagles vs. Eagles.

So he (or she) came up with a photo shopped image for EMU and added an emu, the bird, instead of the Eagle, the bird.

BTW, this isn't made up or baloney, many wanted EMU to pick emu (the bird) as the nickname/mascot for Eastern Michigan when 25 years ago we dropped the name, "Hurons" because of issues (CMU never got the message and never changed their name, but did go to the block C).

We'd be the emus.

Other choices, beside eagles, were the green hornets and apparently emus.

Not a lot of creativity, I'd say...

EMU never should have bowed to the PC crowd on changing their name. I know plenty of EMU alumni that are still ticked off about it to this day. EMU alienated a lot of their older alumni by changing to the Eagles.

I don't know if this qualifies as 20-20 hindsight (as CMU and Miami handled it successfully the first time), but drop the logo but keep the name, "Hurons".

Yes, EMU took a difficult situation and completely bungled it.

If my recollection of history is correct, CMU (and Miami) learned from our mistake and did much, much better... (sometimes going first isn't a good thing).
