The BuzzFeed video takes a legitimate statistic and illustrates it in a way that makes it sound much more dramatic than it actually is.
The 78 percent figure is real, but for cumulative wages. It does not factor in occupations held, hours worked or length of tenure. And, unlike the video, the Census data never attempted to compare equal pay for equal work.
A young woman and a male coworker, who appear to be about the same age, are examining their paychecks when the woman discovers she makes only 78 percent as much on payday as her cubicle mate.

The inconvenient truth is that one can prove that the wage gap is in reality only 96%, and not the much-touted 77-78% that is erroneously misinformed by those ignorant of what the data actually says, and almost none of that 4% difference can be unequivocally attributed to discrimination. Of course, if you actually watch the video, you discover this is so by using the actual data that was used in the study the viral video is supposedly based on. In fact it is less so. Why? Who's getting the majority of 4 year College degrees these days? Who's getting more of the advanced degrees?
And if you simply IGNORE very important influences such as these:

One of the sadder, but unfortunately relevant commenters to the video posted mentioned that no one seems to be complaining about the apparent egregious gender bias in the pornography industry to paying women hundreds and even thousands of times more than men for equal work. Work is work if you can get it.
Apparently, there is room to expand the wage gap to this highly discriminated against class, but I'm not sure these studies take this into account. Probably makes actual the figure 97% or 98%?

That goes directly to "tenure" (which should be done away with) and seniority.
So, Shannon takes 3 years off from her gig to wipe snot. But is allowed back cause she's a good employee. She should be on the same pay scale or chart as Brad, the guys who's been there day in, day out?
Or even better, should she be equal in pay and seniority with Susie, who has been there all along and has sacrificed perhaps a husband, kids, and marital hell, to pursue her career?

Let me ask this though of someone actually in the field. Wouldn't it really be true that for the most part women are actually in the better paying positions? Seniority? RN's, Nurse Practitioners, Anesthesiologist assistants or whatever they are called?
I don't know all the names or job descriptions, but would it be accurate to say it's mainly women occupying the positions that require more training, more education, longer service in the job etc?
And yes, I know they are 95% of the workforce, so we can throw that out, are they more likely to go on to advanced "degrees" in nursing than their male co-workers?

Here's a thought; As it seems pretty clear from evidence posted here already and collected by the researchers in the video from various independent sources (including correctly analyzing the data in the original, erroneous study) that the 77% figure is completely false, and the number if anything is actually around 96%:
Isn't is anti-woman and harmful to be lying to all these women, and especially to little girls and telling them the false number is true? Are not the feminists behind this number of 77% actually behaving in a directly anti-feminist way, and are not those who give the correct number of roughly 96% the actual people who care about and support women?

My question still stands as far as "fairness and equal pay." For me to take the people who are complaining about wage inequality seriously, they have to be willing to advocate for wage equality in all areas for all people (men included), not just for areas they are behind in. Do gigolos have the same issues?
