OT:A $20 million donation to FIU will expand foreign policy programs
Quote:Florida International University on Monday announced one of the largest donations in its history: a $20 million gift to the School of International and Public Affairs.

The money will help FIU pursue a prestigious accreditation, construct a new building, establish scholarships and rename the school in honor of former Ambassador Steven Green, whose family foundation made the donation.

“I wanted to make sure the I in FIU was a big I, for ‘international,’” Green said.

Very generous gift by Ambassador Green. This gift is part of the soon to be announced public phase of FIU's $750 million Capital Campaign. Good stuff.

Too bad that money isn't earmarked for a real press box, one with windows and a place for Away coaches, not an elevated tent in the endzone

It's always a shame when Cleve's waste money on academic programs versus sports.

What a great gift to the university. Congratulations and hoping the donation creates a new generation of future leaders that actually can understand and execute a sustainable foreign policy.

Certainly a great time for FIU academics. I'm sure this gift will assist the elevation and improvement of all things FIU.

And who knows, maybe that School of International and Public Affairs will produce some wealthy alumni in due time...

What is it with you? You are always so negative. We should all agree that academics should come before athletics. After all, these are universities we are talking about. I support the fact that our administration places academics well ahead of sports. And yes our football facilities are inadequate in many ways but we are going to get better facilities and get better in football over the long haul. That's been the plan since day 1. But before this day comes, I hope we can reach the academic heights of Rice (wishful thinking). The fact that Rice does well athletically is something to be commended considering its standing as a top academic institution. I would rather that FIU be an academic power than an athletic power any day. Ideally we can be both. So I'm sorry you detest FIU's athletics so much but you really don't have any choice in the matter.
