There's an update to the story. This was a franchise restaurant. Popeyes corporate came down on them and they are offering her $2000 in back pay and her job back. The franchise owner should have made sure to be there or to have someone there who could man the tills during the heavy marketing period. Procedures for cash handling have to be adhered to, but the employees must also be given the ability to follow the procedures.
Wow, called that one.

Eh, nothing beats store bought chicken at the deli, fried or especially grilled. Popeyes is a funny spicy taste to me (yeah, I know its Louisiana Chicken so that explains it).
Anyways, back to the thread. All I can say is I'm split on this.

I know they have rules on how much money can be in the cash register but perhaps she didn't have a chance to put a large amount of it away because they were short staffed and she was busy. Heck, maybe she was also in charge of the bathroom and that got out of hand because she's only one of a few people dealing with so many people.
On the other hand rules are rules and its all about the bottom line.

If this is true, then Popeyes won't be getting my money anytime soon...
Quote:A pregnant Popeyes employee in Texas says that she was fired from her job at the fast food chain after being robbed and refusing to personally pay back the money that was stolen.
Marissa Holcomb, who is five months pregnant with her fourth child, was held at up at the fried chicken chain store in Channelview on March 31.
A man armed with a handgun and his face concealed by a red beanie ran into the store and jumped the counter, forcing Holcomb to empty the registers before making off with $400.
However afterwards, Holcomb, shaken by the experience, was given an ultimatum by her managers - replace what was taken or lose her job.
'I just had a gun to me. I'm not paying the money,' Holcomb told KHOU.
'I don't think it's right because now I'm struggling for my family because what I had to do to keep my life.
'I mean who's gonna call me? I'm five months pregnant.
'The fact that I got robbed at gunpoint and it's like nobody cares.'
Holcomb says she was fired less than two days after the incident.
A Popeyes spokesman told KHOU that Holcomb was fired for having too much money in the till.
They also said it wasn't the first time Holcomb hadn't cleared the till.
However Holcomb claims she had done her job properly, and that it was an extremely busy night.
The chain were offering a popular two piece chicken special for $1.19 on the night of the robbery.
'They got what they got because that's what we made within one hour,' she said.

Sometimes yiu literally have no time to do it. I worked at sears in college and people would often Pay their sears card bills with cash. Sometimes thousands of dollars. We were alone in our departments on weeknights so if I had another customer waiting, the till didn't get emptied until I was finished with them.
Im glad she got her job back but I'm sure he will just make things hell for her going forward. Popeyes can't make him forget.

Glad she got her job back. This is just another case of folks not using common sense. Policies and procedures serve a purpose; however, sometimes common sense has to make an appearance. I know that happens less and less these days.

Good to see the home office smack around the franchise owner a bit. Seems like it most cases the home office will hide behind that.

Smart move by the home office. No need to jeopardize the brand because of what some dumb franchisee did.

I'm sorry but for those wages you cannot expect an employee to minimize the financial effects of a robbery.
A lot of these places have teens doing this work after school for movie money. The employee cares about the customer getting fed and addressed (and the shop being clean).

I agree fully. Cheryl Bachelder is a great CEO. I've just seen many companies go, "well its a franchise store, so there isn't much we can do".

Agreed Niner... I've been in charge of cash registers before, and when you get swamped, you simply CAN'T make time to put money in a safe. As soon as it slows down, you do it.
Quote: They gave her the option to keep her job if she replaced the lost cash. But she wasnt fired for refusing to pay the money back.
So she was blackmailed by the franchise owner? Un-uh.. no way, no how does that qualify as a valid argument.

Well its also smart not to micromanage and get involved in matters and circumstances you may not fully understand. It's one thing to look at a headline and, rightfully so, be worried about public perception but I'd imagine each store and the area it's in has a unique set of circumstances (crime, peak hours, employee attendance, etc...).
That said, I'm glad she got her job back.

She is a manager, not a cashier. Granted that manager of a popeyes franchise shift is not exactly high on the totem pole.
