Pods for football only. Two best
Teams play for football championship
In basketball even though you don't have divisions you still play your football pod teams home
And away and the other 10 teams
once. It makes for an
18 game basketball schedule.

Texas State would be a duplicate market. Lamar or West Texas A&M would add a new Texas market. Beaumont and Amarillo are new markets. West Texas A&M used to be in the same conference with Tulsa in D1 back in the 1970's and 80's.

4 divisions of 6 each. Each of the P5 conferences then can include the very best of the rest from the G5 and FCS who can support it.

If the Big Ten went to 4 pods
west
Neb, Iowa, Minn, Wisc
South
NW, ILL, Pur , Indy
North
Mich, MSU, OSU
East
PSU, MD, Rut
4-team pods then play teams from 3-team pods 50% of time, and play teams from other 4-team pod 75% of time.
3-team pods play teams from 4-team pods 50% of the time, and play teams from other 3-team pod 100% of time.
you could do the same thing with the ACC, except you play all the others pods only 50-67% of the time.

I forget who proposed this (sorry!)
3 permanent rivals. Play 5 teams this year, the other 5 next year.

Swofford Says No
Yeah that's what I had heard. I'd be surprised if that pods deal actually happens.
I believe the ACC will keep two divisions as long as they stay at their current membership. But I do expect to see some change to accommodate the interests of the southern schools without doing serious damage to the interests of the northern schools.
IMO, the four southern schools will be treated differently from the other ten. I believe the northern ten will remain aligned, division-wise, as they are now. However, I can see the league alternating which two other teams are in their division. One year your division would include Florida State and Georgia Tech, and the next it would have Clemson and Miami.
Each of these southern pairs would have the teams in the other pair as their permanent cross division opponents in an 8 game league schedule.
