2015 Coaches (plural) Caravan: earlier, bigger and better
Check this out: the 2015 Coaches' Caravan is:
- earlier than ever: in May instead of August;
- bigger than ever: a stop in Washington DC!
- and better than ever: not one but two head coaches (David Bailiff and Mike Rhoades) plus AD Joe Karlgaard.
Pretty cool!

I don't know. A few years ago they actually had events in both Dallas and Ft Worth. The Ft Worth event may have had more Rice staff than attendees. This year is the first time they have had no Dallas event at all. Last year was the first year I couldn't make it so maybe my absence dismayed them to the point of ending it.
So anyway, the Caravan is not bigger and better here at least. :(

Did not see an underwriter for Houston-maybe it is underwritten by St. Arnold.

Perhaps for DFW they will do it on an every other year rotating basis or something. They are spending more $ on the tour this time so something had to give.

Perhaps if the reaction from the Metroplex were less "Rats, they are not having a stop in Dallas" and more "What can I do to help make a Dallas stop happen?", there would be one.

I do like how they managed to pick a very Texas-esque location in DC.

My parents used to enjoy attending the raucous annual barbecue of D.C.'s Texas State Society, a hospitable group of transplants founded in 1904 that got big boosts from folks like Sam Rayburn, LBJ and, of course, the Bushes.

No. I heard this week from the Development Office that the reason DFW was bypassed this year was simply because the turnout last year was embarrassingly low.

The current RSVP list for Austin only includes about a dozen people, so we may be next on the 'bypass' list.

RE: 2015 Coaches (plural) Caravan: earlier, bigger and better
It would seem to me that places like DFW, with a lot of alumni, would be the places that need the attention most. Skipping Dallas will not bring anybody back into the fold.
Still it may be a case of allocation of scarce resources. Time and money are not boundless.
Two years back, I went to the FW meeting. last year, there was no FW meeting and the Dallas meeting was much farther away, so I passed.
This year, the Austin meeting is much, much farther away, so I will pass again.
Good idea, but it needs something. Marketing?

As a Texan living in DC, I'm excited. Hill Country is actually a New York restaurant created with the idea of mimicking a hill country Texas BBQ spot, so it's about as Texas as we get here. EDIT: Looks like the venue is being changed for the 3rd time (Hill Country was #2 I think). Now at a non-Texan place

Was: Hill Country BBQ Market -- 410 7th St. NW
Is now: District Chophouse and Brewery -- 509 7th Street NW
Just a block away from each other. I wonder what caused the change.
