OT - Metallica at Rice Stadium (ESPN story and mistake)
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...l-stadiums

ESPN has a story on classic rock concerts held at college stadiums and they include a photo of the Monsters of Rock concert held at Rice. But there is no way that Metallica photo they use in the story is actually from the Rice concert.

I didn't go to that concert but I did attend the Eagles, Elton John/Billy Joel, and Pink Floyd concerts at Rice Stadium.

Mark:

Why do you think the picture is inaccurate? I was back stage for most of the concert and I think the picture is taken from the southwest corner on the field looking up to the upper east stands. There were thousands on the field.

The upper-deck seats in the OP photo look like individual red seatbacks. Aren't ours backless benches?

Not sure which picture you're referring to, but the ESPN picture shows orange stadium seating in the upper deck which can't possibly be right; and the upper deck in the photo gallery picture doesn't look right, while the lower deck has red seats.

If there are chair backs in the upper deck, it's obviously incorrect but I din't think those were chair backs.

Here's the image, which is captioned, "Metallica at Rice":

That looks like an indoors stadium, too, based on the wall behind the upper deck. Not sure where it could be from...

Here's another view from the same concert - different angle - which is also incorrectly labeled Rice Stadium. http://www.iconicphotogalleries.co.uk/mu...06066.aspx
Looking at these two pictures together, it's fairly evident there are 3 decks - red, blue, and orange/red. It appears to be Giants Stadium in NJ, which was the immediate prior stop on the Monsters of Rock tour.

ETA: I45/AlmadenMike beat me on the reverse view.. but I think I'm right on Giants Stadium.

OT - Metallica at Rice Stadium (ESPN story and mistake)
Quote:The first photo is from the band's stop at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1981. The Rolling Stones, along with The J. Geils Band, George Thorogood and Prince, actually played shows on Friday and Sunday (Oct. 9 and 11) in the stadium -- here's a photo of Mick Jagger with the crowd in the background -- and USC played Arizona on the Saturday in between.

Which I believe is probably still the last time Prince ever played L.A. After being booed off the stage, he refused to return.

I'm pretty sure that's Metallica.

Notice they didn't say "Rice Stadium (pictured above)", nor "Houston (pictured above)".
