Being the sponsor gives the MW a guarantee spot each year.

Not sure what it means that this is an exempt event. Is it another meaning for an exhibition game? If so, this seems it'll be on another level of exhibition depending on what schools come to the event.

The MW has been pretty active in basketball this year. They established a challenge with the MVC and now they have sponsored an invitational. Looks like they are making move to help thier members improve the OOC scheduling. The moves are kinda of limited, but every little bit helps.

Yeah, looks like they are beefing up the bball side of things. Getting more bids would be nice but if that doesn't translate into tourney wins...it won't matter.

I wonder with the MW sponsoring the tournament if there is any monetary benefit the MW gets.

"Exempt" means that you can play up to 4 games in the tournament and it only counts as 1 game against the maximum number of regular-season games that each team is permitted.
