This is going to sound crass. Maybe it is. I have known 2 people in the last 12 days to die of cancer. Both under the age of 32. Both lived in CIncinnati. The manner in which we pick celebrity is odd. They are all tragedies.

True Rath, but still God bless her and her family for the awareness raised.

She created her celebrity and used it to raise $1.4M and counting...

I don't think it's odd at all.

Add to the mix that she was still in high school, an athlete who supposed to be at the apex of her physical health and a full life ahead of them, it made of a story people could latch on to.

No one is saying the other deaths are not tragedies. I think people are grateful that Lauren Hill took her lemons and turned them into lemonade.

I watched my best friend from childhood die of a brain tumor shortly after his 40th birthday. Worst birthday party I'd ever been to. Nothing like having the mother of an only child stand in front of you with a book about the stages of death, then break down crying.

I don't think less of my friend for not taking up a cause or go out with a bang, but I do commend Hill for doing something most people never would.

No she wasn't, she played basketball for Mr St Joes.

She was still in high school when diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had already committed to MSJ, and was determined to play despite the diagnosis. And that she did. She continued to play in high school despite chemotherapy treatments...and then went on to college...

So your point is...
