Yup, great job there, Trustees.
May I tweet that, if you don't mind?

RE: T-News: UAB and UAH exist to be UA's commuter colleges
Who ever wrote that editorial is an uninformed idiot. I posted this comment:

I have a personal belief that a person should always do his/her best to not display his/her ignorance in public. Obviously, the author of this editorial and I do not share this belief. If he did the sentences, "UAB and the University of Alabama in Huntsville have a mission within the University of Alabama System. Both schools exist to extend educational opportunities offered by a state flagship at a commuter college." would not be included in this article. What time warp is this guy living in?

In addition, the author would have you believe that it is a good thing that the UA BOT, which is responsible for the spending of millions of taxpayer dollars every year, is not responsible to anyone, not even the taxpayers of the state of Alabama. That is such a ridiculous premise that there is not one public university or college in any state that has a totally self perpetuating board of trustees.

69 comments and someone has yet to post the first positive one.

The author appears to be totally clueless as to the issues involved in this controversy. We wish it were about only football, but it is about far more; it is about the future of UAB. The “commuter” college to which the author refers is the largest employer in this state and its revenue dwarfs that of the Tuscaloosa campus. In fact UAB’s revenue is larger than that of UA, Auburn, and any two other universities in the state that you want to name combined. It is truly the economic engine which not only drives the Birmingham metro area; it is the economic engine which drives the entire state.

I also strongly object to the notion those who object to the actions of the BOT and their hand picked puppet, President Watts, are just upset football fans. Because issues are far larger then just football, the protests are university wide. To date, the following UAB organizations have voted “no confidence” in Dr. Watts: The Undergraduate Student Government Organization, the Graduate Student Government organization, the National Alumni Society, and the Facility Senate. This “vocal few” to which Dr. Witt often refers would be better termed the “vocal multitude”. In the face of such opposition, at any other university in this country the President would have long since forced to resign. It is a demonstration of the arrogance of this untouchable board that the BOT and Dr. Witt continue to issue statements of strong support for Dr. Watts.

I will close with a message to the author of this editorial: Next time you write a editorial, stick to something you know.

Sure, but I snagged it from John Knox.

The author knew that one line would get lots of crap stirred up. Nice fishing.

That reads like a high school sophomore wrote it. Absent the content, which is absurd, it just did not read like an editorial for a major newspaper. Or any newspaper.
