ECU committing to Full Cost of Attendance starting next year.
While tuition, fees, books and room and board remain the staple of a full scholarship, expenses such as academic-related supplies, transportation to and from school and other personal incidentals meeting the federal definition of "cost-of-attendance" can now be included with the value differing from campus to campus.

East Carolina's figure for the 2015-2016 year has been set at $4,025.

Initially, the football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs will receive the full amount of $4,025 per scholarship, while the remaining sports will be appropriated $2,025 for each scholarship in 2015-16 that will total approximately $720,000. All Pirate programs will be allotted $4,025 ($970,000) at the start of the 2016-2017 academic year to accomplish comprehensive coverage.

RE: ECU committing to Full Cost of Attendance starting next year.
The figure thrown around before was an extra $1 million added to the budget for Full Cost of Attendance at ECU. 'Twill be interesting to see how the plan to pay for it. Will the Student Fee go up? Single game ticket prices? Season ticket prices? We shall see.

Should be noted that this past fiscal year our athletics ran at a $1 million deficit. I don't think that incorporates the added revenue from the jump in TV revenue, but I also don't think it incorporates the extra $$ we've got to pay for the AAC entrance fee.

Curious what other schools in the AAC are paying for cost comparatives.

Last year ECU athletics ran a 250K surplus. We had a previous deficit balance of around 750K and this years surplus dropped it to near 500K.

Great for recruiting and to pull away from upstarts like ODU and UNCC. Big picture is to go from P5 to P6 all conference need to do it. A gap Conf USA and others couldn't compete with.

I would think other American Universities will start rolling these press releases out. Nice to see ECU leading the charge! Go Pirates!

I think out of all the tangible places to put the money this is probably about the best. Even a few hundred bucks to most of these recruits is a huge deal.

Only 15 schools over 4k right now. Unc and ncsu are around 2-2.5k.

Big question, who does and doesn't provide it now from the AAC? I find it hard for any program to say no. If this conference wants to separate itself, the whole group needs to do it.

I don't think full cost-of-attendance is going to set the AAC apart from anybody.

Horizon League Passes FCOA for Basketball

Yes, the Horizon League is only doing basketball and an equal number of women's scholarships, but nobody but the Horizon League non-revenue athletes are going to notice or care.

I figure that all of FBS is going to do full cost-of-attendance, and more than half of non-FBS Division I will do FCOA for men's basketball and and equal money for women's sports athletes.

I wonder if UNC and State stay the same (which they won't) would that be enough for ECU to start taking some of the state recruits?

Is it against the rule that only certain sports get FCOA??

How can Horizon league only do it for Basketball?

I thought Title XI or whatever prevent that from happening,

No, just stating where we stand compared to those that have already been announced. Very surprised ours is so high, almost double that of our ACC neighbors to the west.
