RE: Tulsa announces full cost of attendance numbers
Tulane will be down around where BC, Syracuse, and Notre Dame are... ...in the lower half of schools that offer it.

It doesn't.

But no transparency in the accounting means that other schools can dramatically overstate the cost of their "school supplies and food".

I think that's right. This is just another form of cheating really. No way all of these COA numbers at all of these schools have jumped this much this year. But it has to be 'limited creative cheating' since too much creativity might get you a call from the Department of Education --- So there are constraints -

It's legalized "cheating" (which is an illogical combo of words), if there is no review of "allowance" VS area cost of living. The review should be by some independent board, the NCAA has proven that its employees and the university administrators have no control over equitably enforcing regulations

The Department of Education is suppose to review any departure from the "norm." But since the justifications submitted for that departure are created by the institutions themselves -- \I guess, this years radical increases in COA simply reflect some kind of hyper-inflation existing only where D1 schools exist. I guess that's it 03-wink

Public Univ in Knoxville, Auburn and Louisville, all moderately priced places to live, certainly fooled DOE employees so far.

Yeah, perhaps I got hung up in "cost of living" comparisons. I still have trouble seeing how Tennessee, an average state university can justify that it is really that much more expensive than other like state universities or much more costly private universities. Just based on perceived of normal cost of attendance around the country, (and here's something that that's revolutionary here) I'd even say that Memphis is probably out of line.

If you can find a way to do it --- then do it. If you can't - than tough for you. Can but don't like - than don't do it and get left behind. The new reality.
