9 Ks for Austin now. Wonder if Walt will rule him a strikeout pitcher for a day.

Make that 9 Ks for Orewiler through 5. Heck of an outing for the young Owl. Only 2 hits so far. 8-0 Rice going B5.

RE: Rice vs. UH (Tuesday Baseball)
Don't look now, but with Kirby up to bat and Lewis on 2nd, here's a chance to fill 2 of those 3 unmarked boxes with one swing. C'mon, Kirby!! (See Post #16 if that makes no sense to you)

EDIT: But Kirby tries the sac bunt instead. It's effective, especially with an error on Cougar High, loading the bases. Kirby safe on 1st, Williamson to 2nd, and Lewis to 3rd. Ryan with a chance now to score Lewis and put Grayson in the "Runs" column.

EDIT: BOOM! There it is! A walk to Chandler scores Lewis, and 34 of 36 boxes in the box score are filled!! Let's get Kirby home from 2nd now! No outs. 9-0 Rice!! 02-13-banana

EDIT: Make that 10-0 Rice!! Ford with his third hit of the day. Still no outs B5. 02-13-banana

EDIT: Alright!! Sac fly from Warren plates Kirby!! 11-0 Rice, and 35 of 36 boxes are marked. Only Kirby's "RBI" column remains empty. WAY TO GO, RICE!! 02-13-banana

DBU is still #1 in the RPI

I figure it will DBU-LSU and TCU-A&M regionals paired up when it all shakes out.

Whitting says he accidentally brought his Tee 1 pitchers. Fourth UH hurler now in. Still B5. 11-0 Rice.

Orewiler strikes out UH stud, Iriart, to reach double digits in Ks. Great job, Austin!

EDIT: Make that 11. Austin freezes Montemayor to end T6 and match his teammates' run production. To B6 we go, Owls on top 11-0.

Owls go 3-up, 3-down for the first time today. No harm in getting this one over with as soon as possible; I suspect it's end-of-semester exams time.

Baron Von Ottomatic replaces Orewiler to start T7. Heckuva job by Austin against a top-25 ranked team: 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 11 Ks. 04-clap2

Otto keeps the K-train rolling, giving two more Cougars a ride. That's 13 strikeouts for Rice pitchers through 7 innings to 2 strikeouts by Rice batters through 6. Keep the focus, fellas! Onto B7. Rice still up 11-0.

Kirby and Ryan go down quickly to start B7. But Stainback tallies his fourth hit on the day (and the Owls' 15th hit)! Great job, Ford. Make sure to pack that bat in your humidor and bring it this weekend.

RE: Rice vs. UH (Tuesday Baseball)
The Cougars are down to their last 6 outs, so with Rice up 11-0, I'm starting to look ahead. A win today would move the Owls to 24-15 on the season with 14 games left on the schedule.

*IF* we could win the conference tournament, that would net 4 more wins. So we'd need to go no worse than 12-2 in our remaining 14 games to reach the heralded 40-win plateau. That's tough sledding against some stiff competition (UTSA, WKU, FAU, FIU, not to mention this same UH club again).

I don't care much about such plateaus or streaks; I'd rather have a mentally-tough, playoff-ready squad. Though of course, I'm sure if we went 12-2 and won the CUSA tourney, we'd be feeling pretty good about our mental toughness and playoff chances. :) SO LET'S DO IT, OWLS!! I BELIEVE!! START IT OFF WITH A WIN THIS FRIDAY!!

Wow. Two more Ks for Glenn, making 15 on the day for Owl pitchers through 8. That's certainly one way to limit the number of fielding errors. I like the way these pitchers think!! :)

I gotta admit, aside from resting JC's knees this inning by subbing Kopy, I'm a little surprised Wayne hasn't emptied the bench. I suspect he's trying to build a little confidence in his starters and give them some more batting and fielding chances against a quality club.

Grayson adds to the multi-hit club with his 2nd single on the day. That's five Owls with at least 2 hits each, led by Ford with four.

Headed to T9. Otto looking to wrap up a dominating win. 11-0 Owls.
