Thought some of you folks might be interested in this. One of the things that BC stresses in their FB recruiting is that while there are a lot of former BC players in the NFL and coming to BC is a good route to the NFL; for players who are not among that small percentage that make an NFL roster, they are getting an education from a top university that will provide them with a leg up in the professional world.

The guy behind this effort, and many similar ones, is undoubtedly BC head FB coach Steve Addazio. For the first time that I can remember (as a 30+ year season ticket holder) we FINALLY have a head football coach who "gets" BC and is able to market the school properly. The only other BC coach who is equal to him, IMO, is BC hockey coach Jerry York, and we know how that has turned out!

Good move. BC is always going to have it's challenges, and this isn't going to work with every kid, but this is the kind of thing that can get the edge over schools that would be considered BC's "peer group". I've been fairly impressed with what Addazio has done in a short time. I feel like he gets it...it's not ALL about recruiting...but it's enough about recruiting that without it almost nothing else is going to matter if recruiting isn't there. I would never, ever hire a coach without a proven commitment to recruiting at the highest possible level.

Good points, Lou. Agreed. Not for every kid; but a lot of athletes will find this appealing, especially athletes coming out of parochial / Jesuit high schools (and there are a lot of them). It's all about branding and marketing to your target audience, IMO.

Mostly unrelated but just like Miami goes by "The U," I always though Boston College should go by "The College." IDK, it just sounds edgy and "cool" for lack of a better term.

Largest Catholic alumni network? Wouldn't have thought so. I'm assuming they specifically mean alumni association members and no total alumni.
