Championship Sunday!

Per our earlier discussion, I love the "Match Notes" entry in the ODU-hosted live scoring page:

Code:
Match Notes

Rice 12-13; National ranking #54
UTSA 16-8

Competition is tight for the doubles point! Match scores are currently 7-6, 5-6 & 7-5

UPDATE: UTSA wins the doubles point in a late rush: 7-7, 5-8 & 4-8. Bummer.

Grab the singles wins, Owls!!

(Note to the Rice & GRBTC web folks: These doubles scores remain on ODU's live scoring page. Please emulate.)

ODU's live scoring updates seem to be episodic at times, rather than continuous.

#4 Gustaffson tied the team score at 1-1, with his 6-1, 6-2 win.

UPDATE: #2 Andrews won his match, 6-3, 6-1. Rice is leading, 2-1.

#1 Alla won his first set, 6-3.
#3 Malik lost his first set, 4-6, but has a service break in the second.
#5 Warren is in a first-set tie-breaker.

Rice down 3-2, with #1 singles going to a 3rd set, and we have a 1 set lead at #5 singles (and 3-3 in 2nd set).l

On January 16, "Thomas Stillman of UTSA stormed back from a 4-1 third set deficit to defeat Rice's Srikar Alla 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (8) to give the Roadrunners a tense 4-3 win over Rice in the inaugural dual match at Owl's new George R. Brown Tennis Center."

Here's hoping Srikar can return the favor today!

Still, a pretty good season for the men all things considered. One must remember that last year's #1 player, Tommy Bennett, had to redshirt this season due to injury. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.

No such luck. Srikar's skunked in the 3rd, 6-0.

Congrats to the Roadrunner champs ... and to the Owl men for their valiant efforts this year.
