I think a majority vote in the committee. so out of 9 members need 5 votes.

2 co-signers are on the committee. 3 of those committee members are democrats who Jimmy Warren left off his initial email so that might help us (reaching put port in the storm).

in the senate vote we need 3/5 vote, or 21, to pass senate.

The only way this is "dangerous" is if it means that UA has been raping and exploiting UAB's revenue and resources. Therefore, the existing exploitative relationship is at risk if UAB gets more representation.

Selling this as a "dangerous" move to the UA System only confirms what we all thought. They seek only to abuse UAB and take what they want from us and snuff out any insubordinates.

The Chancellor of the System emailing Tuscaloosa alums really takes the cake. It only confirms that in his eyes we're a colony at best for UAT meant to shut up and send back the goods and money we have to T-town. Mercantilism lives on.

In addition, be knowledgable of what this bill is. It simply adds language regarding Board Membership.

Is it just me, or do I feel like SB 348 doesn't do enough? I'm worried that it'll get passed, and then the Bamers could finally PROVE that they have done "something" to help equal representation. I'm sure you all agree, I think the end all goal here should be to seek INDEPENDENCE from the system, as equal representation or even "proportionate" representation is near impossible.

Just getting two new members from UAB, not related to the Bryant Bank/Protective Life cabal, lets us break the Wall of Silence. The current board passes every agenda item 15-0 (items they do not wish to pass do not make it to the agenda), with no discussion. Not a word.

It's not everything we want or need, but breaking their monopoly on power and exposing their illegal means of doing business would be a huge step forward.

What they've done and are doing to UAB is criminal. That's not hyperbole: they are routinely breaking multiple state and federal laws and doing so with impunity. This bill will introduce some punity.

First off, we need to pass something. Jabbo's bill has fewer things to object to than Jack's. Everyone understands that UAB and UAH getting two votes each is still underrepresented, which is why it is passable. We need something that we can get out of committee. Remember too, that a bill can be amended.

It's a set of eyes and ears on the board. It would be a board member who could talk to the press and be credible, because they are an insider.

Mostly, we need to get *something* constructive out of all this. As bad as it has been, to win nothing is going to be difficult to endure.

And if we do lose, we suck it up and hit them again next time the lege meets, because quitting is not an option.

New Information, just out:
Someone from UA, and we assume it is the UA Alumni Association, is currently calling their membership and misrepresenting the facts as the Warren letter from yesterday did. If you have not contacted the members of the Senate Education Committee, please do so immediately and ask for a "YES" vote. You can leave a VMS tonight. Your action today is critical to our success of winning this committee vote! Here again is a list of Committee members:

I liken it to the Star Wars Defense System of the 1980s(?) during the Cold War. Russia wasn't concerned that it would work. They were concerned about what might be discovered along the way...

Once they(UABOT) lose control there could be a multitude of problems for a large number of people. But, this is only the beginning. But any delay gives them time to tighten defenses or "clean up"...

Just adding 1 non bought member opens up the doors to everything that they are doing behind closed doors.

That is why they are fighting this with everything they have to fight.

It might be worth us recruiting Auburn folks to assist in this. I know some Auburn folks aren't supportive of UAB either, but I think most are and more than that, I think most hate Alabama and recognize bullying when they see it.

The Auburn fanbase is sizable and would be a valuable boost to our cause. If UA can use our tax dollars to lobby and recruit folks to their side, we must use whatever means possible to recruit folks to our cause.

UA people supporting SB 348 might be more valuable and credible if they are alums of the UA System, but the Auburn folks would probably be easier to recruit to support the cause.

Speaking of support, I've been wondering where UAH stands on this legislation. Despite what Mayor Battle has spewed, I imagine their student and alumni groups would happily support the bills in Montgomery. But something tells me they've been "encouraged" to steer clear of this fight.

Money is being thrown everywhere. Just imagine the money we DON'T know about...
