Not if they know more than the coach and refuse to buy in to the team concept.
So it was the players' fault then?
Exactly, in many, many cases it is. Would you like examples? Have you seen the TV story on the Vanderbilt football players who took the drunk coed into the athletic dorm? I think we can go on and on and on about stupid decisions by college students and students playing sports are part of that group.

RE: Tarik is killing it
Pastner is hard headed but not incompetent. I dont love him but truth be told the players didnt buy in, perhaps because of his youth. Tough to really coach a group like that. Pastner is still the coach and one can only wonder what we may have done had the players not already known it all.
Jmo my friend, Im frustrated too but who are we going to get thats better? BP has sailed, Bobby Knight has some years left. Tarik and JJ were both having a hard time buying in and contemplated leaving every year. Tough chemistry when its like rhat.
I think Pastner should have given Jj more freedom and never agreed with how he yanked him, players learn ro play through mistakes. Tarik had his chances. so no, its not the players fault souly, but it is not all Pastners either. We were dysfunctional on a lot of levels. Pastner never once overachieved, nor did his know it all players and parents.

No need. Just wanted to know the identity of the scapegoats.

Just Google "Arkansas Razorback Football Player Arrested". There is enough there to answer the question. No scapegoating involved in any of this. You commit the crime....you do the time.

The Arkansas matter is irrelevant, but no matter though.
I'm just glad Will and Tarik are doing well in the NBA. Take care.

Players fault my azz. The Josh apologists can't keep up with the transfer list I guess.

So now we've boiled it down to athletes committing crimes = not boxing out or listening to the coach?

Pastner does not communicate well with his players...He himself admits that.
Yes there are players who already know it all and do not take instruction well...But one thing is for sure success breeds buy in...If what you are telling me to WORKS I am more likely to believe in it. I think that is where Josh falls short he doesn't have that equity built up with past successes.
When Josh consistently tells a player something it doesn't work or they get dissenting viewpoints elsewhere they tend to quit listening to an unproven coach.

Very limited in what he can do on both ends but is physical enough to hang on. Would be in D league (if he could beat out Stokes which I doubt) if on Grizzlies roster to put his play in perspective. I watch over 125 complete NBA games a year.

Like everything, I think it's a combination of things. Sure, the players are absolute knuckleheads sometimes. Sure, Josh sometimes overreacts. Sure, both parties are at fault.
At the end of the day, Pastner is the guy who gets whacked for the failure to develop players, regardless of the reasons. Is that fair? I think it mostly is, because he's the guy getting paid.
HOWEVER...that dynamic is changing. When players are also getting paid, now all of a sudden they are employee-athletes and had damned well better do what they are told, or get fired.

Granted the Lakers are awful but this is pretty amazing.
So basically a guy who couldn't play for Pastner is killin it in the NBA?
Is that about right or did I leave something out?

Only the part about him not being able to play for Bill Self, either.

The thing about Self's team was that they were already loaded with front court talent. Just loaded. I think Self made Tarik a few promises that he had trouble keeping but it all worked out in the end.

And Tarik still couldn't stay in the game. Look, I'm glad the guy is having some success, and I'm more than willing to criticize Pastner where it's merited, but when he gets bashed for EVERYTHING, you lose people like me because it makes it apparent that it's a personal thing, not a professional one. (I use the term 'you' in the general sense, not referring to you, personally)
Tarik did not perform well at either place. There was no predicting that he would have success in the NBA based on his own efforts in college. Bashing Pastner for his performances simply loses people like me when you could make your point much better with other players.

I'm bashing the hell out of Pastner because of the way he handled Tarik. Absolutely. I've complemented Pastner when I thought it was appropriate, which hasn't been much lately.
Black was first team preseason all-CUSA and Josh used him poorly when Shaq came in. He doesn't recognize how to use his talent. Pastner misuses players, they get irritated, then they are benched and lastly they are blamed for a bad attitude. It's total BS. Totally.
If it were one or two guys, great, but it's not. It's a team full of guys who've left.
He's a horrendous manager of players.
Does that mean I just hate the guy? He'll no. What I'm saying is that he can't coach or manage a roster or adjust his game plan or answer a GD question directly or see the writing on the wall that he's just not the answer here and additionally he has zero feel for the game.

Tarik Black was picked PRESEASON new comer of the year in the Big 12......I assume based on his play at Memphis. At the end of the season.....TaShawn Thomas from OU ended up as Newcomer of the Year. Interesting that Thomas was a transfer from another CUSA/AAC school, Houston. Thomas was an ALL AAC Second Team member at Houston in 2014. This post was only intended to inform. Nothing else.
