AAC Tops In G5 Attendance
A pretty complimentary article comparing the G5 on the basis of attendance.

The newly formed American Athletic Conference leads the group of five in total attendance. Including incoming member Navy, the AAC averages 29,447 per game. They have five schools averaging over 30k and three more who in the recent past have reached over 30k in Houston, UConn, and Cincinnati. Mix that in with the minimum coaches salary of 1.1 million and you can bet the house once the AAC finishes developing they will be bordering the Power Five in a number of facets.

Look at the attendance figures for Boise, Fresno, SDSU, and Air Force. Sure wish we shared a league with those teams...

I agree that it would have been nice to keep/add those schools. I do think for the time being the league should use everything it has in the coffers to cultivate the members it has and not spread itself to thin with reclamation projects. I think once some of these university's can gain some solid ground through their own investments in stadiums, facilities, etc... as well as support from the league office we will be in a much better spot in a couple of years. That will be about the time the media deal will be heading to the negotiation table. We will have hard evidence of attendance, viewership and success on the field which translates into more marketable products hopefully. I believe being on TV all the time even if it is ESPN News will really help some of these brands develop and grow. What that equates to in dollar terms is anyones guess but I suspect it will be much higher then the first deal. I mean as a league we aren't even the complete set of schools with Navy coming on board in July. They are a strong brand and will only help.

RE: AAC Tops In G5 Attendance
Interesting. If the AAC added Boise, Fresno, SDSU, Air Force, Colorado St, and New Mexico to form a new far west division---the average attendance of that group would be very similar (29,391). It would give the AAC 8 teams with an attendance average of over 30K and give us 11 of the nations top 12 G5 football programs in attendance----Total dominance.

We would have the most valuable G5 programs in the US and a top 3 basketball conference (especially if we added one basketball only school to each division---VCU in the east, Wichita in the Central division, and BYU Olympics in the west). That would be the closest thing to a P6 you could get.

**Navy averages over 30K and is not listed on the chart.

The gap is going to widen even further this year

Cincy new stadium, Temple host ND&Penn St., Houston&SMU with new coach and good OOC, UCF and ECU stay about the same. The conference numbers next year will look pretty food. Memphis should see a spike.

RE: AAC Tops In G5 Attendance
UNLV has negotiated financing with Wells Fargo and a purchase agreement for 42 acres on the Strip for $50 million with a 45k-seat stadium build out budget of a little over $500 million.

http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgp2d?utm_s...e-football

With the new Strip stadium, UNLV would definitely have better potential to exceed the 30K attendance benchmark. With the facilities upgrade, UNLV would have a lot more potential to improve its football.

In addition to 6 UNLV home football games, the venue would also likely attract some neutral-site football matchups (especially involving BYU and the PAC 12) and would be a major upgrade for the Las Vegas Bowl. So, you might have 10+ games each football season played at the new venue – 6 UNLV home games, 3 or 4 neutral site games, and the Las Vegas Bowl.

The venue would also likely host concerts and other events and generate year-round revenue. In addition to concerts, I could see the Rugby Sevens tournament, college Rugby championship, MLS, NFL pre-season exhibition games, etc. This could net UNLV a ton of $$$.

ECU will probably dip a little to around 42k. Not a very good home slate this year.

I agree it could take a hit drop to 42 or the saturday games make it more appealing and around 45. It wont make a significant impact on the conference because its only 1/12 of the conference. Teams like Temple and memphis will make up for it. If ECU drops to 42 this year then someone else will take the crown at the top.

How are they the best when they have lesser attendance than AAC schools?
