The kid is physically gifted. Many had him on par or slightly below Okafor as both played HS in Chicago. But like Darius Paul didn't have to really exert himself to play at a higher level. And in HS it was rare to be challenged physically. Soon, cruise control became the norm for exertion. And since there isn't a switch to get mentally tough he took a beating at times in Lawrence.
Also has people in his ear. Reports were he had contact with an agent either before enrolling at Kansas or shortly thereafter. With a NCAA investigation he was "suspended" at the end of a lackluster season.
With the writing on the wall that his return wasn't doable like so many others he opts for the pro route.
I may be mistaken but I think the saga of recruiting Alexander may have been the last straw for Izzo in trying to recruit that highly political and connected landscape in Chicago. Told one thing, then hears another. Actions didn't align with words and vice versa. A colossal headache. Cant blame Izzo for the sentiment.
It wont surprise me to see this kid overseas at some near time as the NBA will tire of his less than 100% effort and waste of skills. But he'll keep hearing from others that "the boss" has got it wrong.

RE: Classic example
Horrible decision.
Kansas had a bright future.
Oubre and Alexander both leaving... wonder who is next.
