Even more reason to hate Alabama BOT.

San Diego State was scheduled to play UAB this year. They have been working on finding a replacement since the announcement, but have been unable to. Today, they got non-Scholarship Univ of San Diego to drop their Sept 5th match-up against NAU and play the Aztecs instead.

This leaves NAU with only 10 games, and scrambling to replace it.

So who else was UAB scheduled to play? Are they also scrambling? Can they just play each other?

That would be the easiest remedy and quite possibly the only one.

RE: UAB fallout hits Flagstaff ARIZONA
USA picked up a series with SDSU to replace its UAB OOC game. We play at SDSU this year and SDSU comes to Mobile in 2016. I'm missing something.

USA had an away game scheduled with UAB for this year. If SDSU had an OOC game with UAB, it would have been replaced by USA.

Not sure. Unless SDSU had to cancel a different game to make the USA series work

I read the press release announcing this (SDSU) game. It didn't say anything about it being a replacement for UAB. UAB's website shows UAB's OOC opponents scheduled for 2015 and 2016. They had home and homes with Georgia State, South Alabama, and Troy, plus games at Tennessee (2015) and at Kentucky (2016). Since Georgia State, Troy and South Alabama are all in the Sunbelt, I doubt they would play each other OOC since they will probably play each other in conference already.

So, if SDSU was going to cause the cancellation of NAU-USD to get the Aztecs a game on that date, why wouldn't they play NAU, who would be a "countable opponent" if SDSU wins the game?

This. South Alabama had an opening due to UAB falling off. San Diego State had an opening and an agreement was reached for a home and home series. Any poor planning by SDSU has nothing to do with UAB.

Much of UAB's scheduled non-conference games were Sun Belt schools already scheduled to play each other.

But politics is a mother. So is the idea of ducking or being in fear of playing teams and so is money, which may not match expectations of what UAB agreed to.

They would have different free weeks, so there would be a lot of shuffling. It might be the easiest remedy, but it is by no means an easy remedy.

Those schools can just play each other again in a "Non-conference" game. Now, I don't really understand that at all, but other conferences do it, so, there's that.

RE: UAB fallout hits Flagstaff ARIZONA
I look forward to CUSA making a decision one way or the other. I am sorry but this story is getting old for me. UAB football has been severely damaged. Hope UAB gets it football back for it's fans but UAB will need a long recovery time. Sadly the cost of bringing the program back needs to be figured in now. It seems UAB is no win situation, they are financially worse off even by bringing football back or they break fans' hearts by not bringing it back. No matter what, it seems Bryant we win out either way. Reminds of the Empire Strikes Back. Hopefully, Return of the Blazers will get funding.04-cheers

I think pretty much everyone sorted out their schedules.

1) USA - replaced @UAB (2015) and vs UAB (2016) with a series with San Diego State.

2) Troy - appears to have replaced vs UAB (2015) with a FCS and @UAB with the front end of a home and home with USM.

3) Georgia State - appears to have replaced UAB with a series with Ball State.

---

USA got a better (as far as perception goes) series, Troy got a meh (but has managed a home and home with NC State and Boise State - so don't feel too bad for them), and Georgia State went laterally. We should all make Watts pay but most of us didn't get screwed.

I have no idea who SDSU thinks caused them to drop NAU and add USD. It doesn't appear to be UAB.
