And I know the ACC officials overturned a clear forward pass to give Tech a chance to win. This game was signed as an FBS team. We will have neutral conference officials.

You know, I'm almost buying this. It will be interesting.

I could easily see this being a hot upset pick among pundits going into the first week. Would be a great early win for the conference, even if the Eagle chatter on here will probably be ridiculous for a while after.

Buzz is not a word typically associated with Idaho and NMSU.

However, let's start some, for the Aggies anyway.

Good? Probably not.
Better? Probably so.

Things going in the right direction:
* Roster - should be about 20 players deeper on the roster, which alone should help
* Experience - last year's team was one of the youngest - some experience is positive
* Playmakers - best RB, Larry Rose III, and best WR, Teldrick Morgan return
* Size - playing so many freshmen last year meant they didn't have a summer's strength and conditioning behind them some evidence of players muscling up

QB is somewhat of a question mark. The returning starter proved he could make plays and lead drives but he led all of FBS with the most picks.

Headwinds include:
* coaching turnover. The OC took an HC job, so now Aggie HC Martin will also call the plays. Also the DC retired and Martin hired from within to fill the new DC spot. Turnover has been a problem for a while. Martin is a proven commodity as OC but we'll see how much HC/OC combo effects him.

The schedule is a mixed bag. No FCS on the schedule and two money games.
GaSt and Idaho at home. GaSo and ULL on the road.

Week 1: Charlotte at Georgia State - CUSA vs Sun Belt. Best game on paper. Plus, GaSo isn't beating WVU.
Week 2: Mizzou at Arkansas State - SEC visits the Sun Belt. Honorable mention to Western Michigan at Ga Southern.
Week 3: UTEP at New Mexico State - CUSA vs Sun Bet. Best of a weak slate. Honorable mention to Southern Miss at Texas State
Week 4: NC State at South Alabama - ACC visits the Sun Belt. Lots of solid games this week. App @ ODU, TxS @ Houston, Akron @ LaLa, stAte @ Toledo and GaSo visits Idaho.
Week 5: UL-Lafayette at La Tech - Cajuns look for revenge. Another week of solid games. Wyoming @ App, NMSU @ New Mexico, GaSo @ ULM, USA @ Troy.
Week 6: Texas State at UL-Lafayette - Best of a mediocre bunch. ULM @ Tulsa is an honorable mention
Week 7: Arkansas State at South Alabama - Moving week in this game. Also, App @ ULM.
Week 8: UL-Lafayette at Arkansas State AND Georgia Southern at App State - Great Tuesday/Thursday punch. USA at TxSt will also be very interesting.
Week 9: Texas State at Georgia Southern - Big Thursday night game. Close second is ULM @ ULL.
Week 10: Arkansas State at App State - Another big Thursday game. Saturday slate should have top teams beat up bottom teams.
Week 11: UL-Lafayette at South Alabama - It's the Thursday game for a reason. Close second is stAte @ ULM.
Week 12: ULM at Texas State - Hey guess what? Another Thursday game! GaSo @ UGA could be interesting.
Week 13: UL-Lafayette at App State - Black Saturday in Boone. Honorable mention is USA @ GaSo.
Week 14: Texas State at Arkansas State - A close one over Troy @ LaLa, App @ USA and State @ Southern.

So no faith that we will beat UK in week 1??

I can see that happening

Good to hear . . . . . In a later post, I did allow for the fact that I might have misinterpreted your comment, Thanks for the clarification. . . .

Really, upon more thoughtful reflection, How on earth could you have possibly tried to intimate that either ULL or TXST were "mediocre"? It's just NOT possible . . . .

Sooooooo, yeah . . . .you obviously had to be referring to the "other games that week." 04-cheers

TXST Vs USA - potential "Revenge" game, as some see last year's game as costing us a bowl.
TXST Vs GA S. - If not for a costly pick 6 last year, we probably knock the Eagles off, another potential "Revenge" game.
TXST Vs Ark St - Y'all were pretty beat up last year, and I can see y'all coming into this one with a chip on your shoulder, plus it's the next to last game of the year, could be plenty on the line . . . 04-cheers

I'd add ULM to the list, and take the place of the Cajuns.

- Adding the Warhawks because each of our games with them have been close, fun games to watch.

- Taking the Cajuns away because our games haven't even been NEAR competitive against them. Even the scores didn't show how "close" the games weren't. Until we can at least make it look difficult for them to get a win, I can't call this a game to watch for us.

I like playing ULM, at least our games with the Warhawks are competitive . . . .

But I really want to get that ULL monkey off our backs . . . . A win over them would be a "statement."

Sun Belt preview: Five conference games to watch in 2015

Matt Murschel, Orlando Sentinel
Updated March 27, 2015

For the first time in quite some time, the Sun Belt enters the season unchanged.

"Conference realignment made the league’s membership somewhat of a revolving door with schools coming-and-going every season. Facing stability, here are five league games to watch heading into 2015:"

Georgia State at New Mexico State
Saturday, Sept. 12
The Buzz: Beginnings can be difficult. In two years of existence, Georgia State is 1-23 overall with the Panthers still seeking their first Sun Belt win. If this team hopes to get its first conference win, the best shot could come in this early showdown. New Mexico State won just once in league play  – a 34-31 win over Georgia State. Both programs return 17 starters and figure to show improvement in 2015.

South Alabama at Troy
Saturday, Oct. 3
The Buzz: For the first time in close to a quarter of a century, Troy will open Sun Belt play without legendary coach Larry Blakeney on the sidelines. Former assistant coach Neal Brown returns to reboot a program that suffered through its fourth losing season in the past 14 years. South Alabama, meanwhile, is coming off a 6-win season and its first bowl game in the program’s short history.

ULM at Louisiana-Lafayette
Saturday, Oct. 31
The Buzz: In four seasons under Mark Hudspeth, Louisiana-Lafayette has won 36 games including four straight New Orleans Bowl. The Ragin’ Cajuns have quickly become the favorites in the Sun Belt conference race and have owned this Battle of the Bayou series, winning six of the past seven games including last season’s 34-27 win over the Warhawks – who suffered their third losing season under Todd Berry.

Geogia Southern at Appalachian State
Thursday, Oct. 22
The Buzz: The two latest additions to the Sun Belt continue their Black & Blue Brawl rivalry with this showdown at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Last season, Georgia Southern jumped out to a 17-point first-half lead on the Eagles ways to a 34-14 win. It snapped a three-game winning streak by the Mountaineers in the series as Appalachian State went on to win 7 games in its first season in Football Bowl Subdivision.

Georgia State at Georgia Southern
Saturday, Dec. 5
The Buzz: If Sun Belt officials are looking for a rivalries to promote, this Peach state series could fit the bill. Last season, these two programs where on different ends of the standings with Georgia Southern capturing the conference championship in its inaugural year, while Georgia State finished with one win. In their matchup last season, Nick Arbuckle threw four touchdown passes and Matt Breida ran for four more scores as the Eagles rolled over Georgia State, 69-31.

I can think of at least 3 matchups better than the 5 listed. I'll go along with ULM vs UL and Georgia Southern vs Appalachian St because they are both somewhat rival games but the other 3 games, nope.

Gast has two games and stAte has none. no credibility.

Totally agree, the last two years I watched ULL/StAte on TV . . . Both were great games and totally fun to watch . . . . As to conference games that don't involve TXST, ULL/StAte is high on my list . . . .

This series has been GREAT so far!

In 2013, down 31-30, TXST gets the ball with 1:29 left in the game. USA's defense forced TXST into a 4th and 24 situation, but TXST took advantage of USA's Prevent Defense to convert on a 51-yard pass that put them in field goal range. With 4 seconds left TXST kicks the game winning field goal to win 33-31.

In 2014, down 24-20, TXST finds life with 2:26 left in the game at their own 45 yard line. A field goal will not work this time. TXST navigates all the way down to the USA 4. TXST is out of timeouts. There are mere seconds left. There is only time to run one running play or two passing plays. TXST elects to try two passes. The first pass fell incomplete, which means the outcome of the game rested on the final play. The second pass is snapped and fell incomplete as time expires. USA wins 24-20.

Bring on 2015!

TXST-USA could become a great rivalry presuming they'll continue to stay in the SBC. I see one of them leaving in 2016.

Former assistant coach Neal Brown returns to reboot a program that suffered through its fourth losing season in the past 14 years. South Alabama, meanwhile, is coming off a 6-win season and its first bowl game in the program’s short history.

ULM at Louisiana-Lafayette

I am not sure how you could leave out UL vs stAte. They don't really like each other...the fan bases fuss and feud. Besides that we really owe those guys.

This list is not very credible, just the fact that they left off UL vs astAte, and actually have a game you couldn't pay people to watch, in GSU vs NMSU.
