RE: Nippert Stadium construction update
I dont think people realize how much "on campus" Nippert really is

If they had to they probably could expand to 45,000 max someday thats probably about it

Reed Shank could be replaced and the stadium could go to 50,000. That is the simple solution to more seats. Plus you could add another section or two to the length of the current RS.

I just dont see that Nippert really needs much more then 40K unless they get into a P5 conference. Most games you wont be over that number and on the occasion that a big opponent is coming, then you can use the NFL stadium.

Nipperts unique and the new design will make it a real jewel. No point in bastardizing it just to get a few more seats.

Reed Shank could be replaced and the stadium could go to 50,000. That is the simple solution to more seats. Plus you could add another section or two to the length of the current RS.

1) I think that EVENTUALLY Reed-Shank will need to be reconstructed. And at that time, probably it will be expanded by making it deeper and/or adding box suites to the east side to somewhat match the west. (Note the words "Eventually" and "Probably")

2) You cannot "lengthen" Reed-Shank for the following reasons:
A) The open sight lines to Dietrle and the Campus have been identified as being a primary concern.
B) The new Suites now MATCH the length and curve of the Reed-Shank Pavilion thereby adding symmetry to Nippert. (The artists' rendering do not reflect this, but if you look at the actual construction you can clearly see how the overhang club seats extend and curve towards the "south" endzone in a mirror fashion to how Reed-Shank extend and curve on the east side.) And on the "north" side, Reed-Shank butts up against Linderner.

But I think the need to do this is pretty far down the road. The post-construction capacity of Nippert should be in the range of 42k which is appropriate for the AAC. Any move upwards in capacity, from this time on, will be increasingly expensive for a decreasing amount of added capacity.

That is going to look impressive with all of that glass on both sides of the structure.

The pictures don't show that the press box is actually taller than the stadium is deep. It really is a huge structure that should help make the already loud stadium one of the loudest in the country.

Seeing those pictures made me think of how amazing that first night game back at the Nip is going to be. That giant structure is gonna trap even more noise in... the place is gonna shake. Also, those new lights on top of it are gonna light up the stadium a bit differently than we are used to. Louder and a slightly different look at night.

I feel sorry for whoever faces us at the first night game back at the Nip (moreso than usual). And if that first night game is a Thursday night... Oh man. 04-rock

Houston gets to see the new Nippert in 2016. But we don't come back until 2019 or 2020.

Not sure what you are talking about. The seats at Nippert rise pretty gradually.

Subflea you must've never had to run them,

When I walked on the football team we had to run the stairs to show we really wanted to be a Bearcat. I still to this day look at them with dread.
