I'm excited. I hope our newest Blazers do well. No need to hate on them.

Watts is slyly kicking dirt into the football grave so it can't be dug back up.

Ray Watts is a walking, lying disaster for UAB. He SUX. What a SOS we have as a president.

So it's not a full mens track & field team just cross country. So they wont allow UAB to even compete for sprinters just marathoners. There are very few people who attend track &field meets and much fewer attend cross country meets.

Why are we saddled with stupidity?

Yea, why not a full men's track and field team? Maybe because you need a stadium to perform many of the events?

Used to run both track and XC. Loved the sports. Normally I'm all for them, but in this situation - it's a dog biscuit thrown by ray ray. He'll make the XC team car pool to events. Give me a break Watts...

Flippin' insult on top of insult.

& I believe they will round up existing students who are interested in being on the team.

Not saying that is good or bad, just stating it.

Its easier to phase-out cross country than to phase out Football. I'm not worried about this program and it's Blazers.

I can't and won't blame the kids and coaches involved. I'll save my disdain and vitriol for Watts and the BoT.

Does the cost of keeping & maintaining men's XC get rolled into the new report or will the UAB death squad come after them when football retruns?

I hope the new team does well, basketball thrives with its multi-million dollar investment, and we bring back football in a bolstered athletics department 04-rock

RE: UAB officially announces addition of men's cross country
That's all fine and dandy but now we will have to add additional Women's sports besides Bowling and Rifle when football returns to meet Title IX (Thus increasing the cost of adding football even more) or the program will have to be axed. Now if Watts can get us out of C-USA fast enough that cost will substantially increase for FBS Football to return. These costs will have to now be factored into the new CSS report. (Watts grins)

Just food for thought.

Yeah, it's worrisome that it's a blatant attempt to stifle the return of football, but I don't fault any of the coaches or guys out there wanting to sign up.

Still, if you're going to do it, what's up with cross country over track and field, though?

If we're going to add a mens track & field then add a fully functional mens track & field team that includes cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field. I would pay (have paid to see the girls team) participate at the crossplex.

You don't have to build anything maybe?

Just bus them out to oak mountain, I guess. Everyone knows why it's being done. It's not like Ray is a master mind.

I thought the new soccer stadium included a 400 meter regulation track.
