If you look at the profile of the new Big East, Richmond would be a better fit vs. VCU

The Big East is made up of all Private Catholic schools with the exception of Butler but is still a private school. VCU won't be seeing the Big East anytime soon if ever lol

I think St Lou is almost a guarantee if they can find another school. The other candidates are Davidson, VCU...possibly Wichita State. Don't think they have any interest in Richmond. Being a large public school might keep VCU away.

VCU fans are really dumb. They view asking for a release as "due diligence."

With Smith Rivera returning to Georgetown, hopefully they can put a whooping on VCU in MSG.

Big East already said no to VCU when Butler and Xavier moved. Richmond and Dayton were in the talk but its been silent

The Big East clearly wants to go to 12 and VCU is one of the 4-5 that keeps being brought up. Even by members of the current Big East. Dayton, VCU, St. Louis, Richmond are candidates. I've read Fox wants them to add Gonzaga, but not sure how that would work.

Gonzaga is EAST of Alaska tho

Allegedly Richmond is a favored candidate of Georgetown, and G-town still holds a lot of sway in that conference.

Dayton and St. Louis seem like pretty obvious additions to make 12, but with microscopic FS1 ratings, I don't think there's any teams that would help. I remember last season that the two Villanova-Creighton matchups—both were ranked in top 10 for both games—were among the least-watched in college basketball that season. Not because of the quality of play, but because nobody gives a **** about FS1. And unless/until that happens, there's no benefit in expanding.

Unless VCU adds football, and that doesn't sound particularly likely, they probably won't join a conference better than the A-10. Maybe if the American adds non-football schools, but nobody with any authority has even hinted about that.

I have no doubt that VCU wants to jump ship into the Big East badly. And the Big East is about money first and foremost. VCU would give them more of a boost in basketball than Richmond despite VCU being a large public school. THis is why I suggest it would not surprise me. Fox is going to probably be pushing for Dayton/VCU.

Why in the world would members of the Big East separate from basketball powers like UConn and Cincinnati to form their own private-affiliated basketball conference to then have a change of heart and want VCU?

I get VCU's appeal as a basketball member but what sense would it make to suggest that the Big East would go against everything that they just unwound to mix it back up again? That just doesn't make sense. They'd be better to go crawling back to court UConn, Cincinnati, Temple, and Memphis than VCU. And that's not going to happen either. The A10 is a great basketball-only league and VCU has been at or near the top since they moved. So it has worked well.

Now the possibility that the Big East would look at UR and Dayton is a very different story.

From what I understand, UConn and Cincy were trying to leave bc of football. Thus, the "Catholic Seven" got what they wanted, which was a basketball conference that weren't threatened by football or teams wanting to leave bc of football. The teams talked about are basketball schools.

NVM. I just figured out that the Big East might rather have a 30k student public that these schools that play football.

But I still think they'd hurry for UR and Dayton before they would want to add a large public like VCU.

You guys make me feel dirty defending why the Big East might possibly want VCU in the future :) Personally, I would send them to the Big West conference.

The trademark is stale. I don't believe it will be a money-maker going forward.
