The "Academic Big Ten" is an extremely desirable affiliation to hold.
Just because Cincy is on the outside of that affiliation does not mean you can dismiss it.
It is, is it? So many schools clamoring for Big Ten invite... Texas, Notre Dame, UVA, UNC...all those Ivies.. I wonder why it is taking Johns Hopkins so long to accept their CIC invite?

He is speaking in terms of academics... not athletic. It is well known Big Ten schools are among the best or are at least not slobs about the academic/research side. Being associated with Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, the rest minus O$U and considered a peer due to the athletic affiliation definitely helps the image of a school. They are some of the best schools to share research or have joint research happen, you got Hospitals, Engineering, Molecular Biology, etc.
In the best interest of your school and NOT your Athletic Department, The B1G is a good group of schools to work with. ACC for the most part arent slobs either (Pretty much everyone but Florida State is at least respectable.)
