Much earlier in this thread I posted a link to a late January article where the Cajun AD sounds like he wants a C-USA invitation. I doubt anything has happened in the last 2 months to change that.

Quotes from the article:

"Should C-USA add even just one, though, UL considers itself a viable candidate.

Other programs widely regarded as potential candidates for C-USA membership should the league expand include — but aren’t limited to — Liberty, James Madison, UMass and fellow Sun Belt members Arkansas State, Georgia State, Texas State and South Alabama.

“I would think we are because of geography, because of where we are today, and because of what’s on the docket to be built,” Farmer said. “I would think we are. But, quite honestly, I have not heard anything.”

and:

"“The Sun Belt Conference is a great home, OK?” Farmer said.

“But, going back to what we’ve said for seven years now, we want to prepare this athletic department to accept membership in the best conference that comes calling.

“And, right now, that’s the Sun Belt,” he added. “And if it’s another conference in the future, then we would look at it, and make sure it’s the right decision for us.”

The last time, UL never got that chance.

“We were prepared,” Farmer said, “and we gave them (C-USA officials) as much information on us as we could so they could make that informed decision.”

But the Cajuns, Farmer added, weren’t “given the opportunity” by Conference USA “to go make an in-person presentation.”

Until C-USA decides if it will go member shopping, the UL athletic director walks a fine line between acknowledging the present and pondering the future.

“I don’t want to say we’re looking to leave (the Sun Belt),” Farmer said. “At the same time, we’re gonna do what’s best for the university. That’s what our jobs are.”

I have heard the same.....USA being pushed (and perhaps making their case most strongly) and the Cajun program not so much. And perhaps the Cajun leadership views such a move as a costly lateral move at this time. I know a lot of Cajun fans would be deeply disappointed if that were the case, but I would not be one of them. As I mentioned above, we are doing just about everything the right way regardless of conference affiliation and that is what I want to see continue.

I being a kid from South LA who had family attend USL understand that ULL has done a good job with their athletics the last 5 years. Tech hasn't done to bad either, btw. ULL would quickly get to the point of diminishing returns in CUSA. They for the most part own the Sunbelt and have a commissioner who would cater to their every whim. Why risk that just to keep up with the jones when it looks like things aren't going to shake out as planned.

I dont see how south is a strong candidate. It actually seems that adding football has hurt their other sports. Both basketball teams and baseball are no where as strong as they were just 5 years ago.

If anything we need to somehow lose another school and stick at 12.

The only real candidate for a CUSA invite is a fake one. The Atlanta market is too big to pass up.

The ACC has a 15 team basketball makeup with Notre Dame. CUSA can do the same by keeping UAB.

CUSA will be welcoming FGSU sooner than later.

That would be a hell of a move for the hoops side of the league. both mens and womens.

If we go to 16 and UAB isn't bringing back football, the next 3 schools we should consider is Georgia Southern, ULL, and USA.

We have enough Texas schools so no to Texas State
Arkansas State and the state of Arkansas bring nothing at all
No more 1AA start ups or call ups
And UMASS is just too far

Eh. FGSU has its good years and bad years. They were in the CAA and nothing special. ODU beat them this year too. They're good sometimes. Sometimes not. Their facilities absolutely suck. If they brought Atlanta, that would help, but I'm not sure they do. Geographically it's perfect though. I could take em or leave em.

There will be little if any support to go to 16. Not enough tv dollars now. I say we give fiu back and stick at 12.

If my memory seves, the Cajun athletic budget has one of the lowest percentages, if not the lowest, of state funding of the group. If that is indeed the case, just wait and see what happens after next years State Budget comes out.07-coffee3

GaSt wins one game and suddenly they are a basketball juggernaut. Ga Southern holds something like a 44-26 series advantage........and we are nothing to write home about.

16 would likely mean Two of the MAC's better teams sign on, Ohio and Toledo??? So basically I think no way 16 teams happen.
