I'd say there's always a chance as long as Banowsky wants it. I don't think it's likely though.

Depends on the TV money, if we can get more money it's a possibility but it won't happen for atleast 3 years. Plus the UAB thing and other conference realignment should take note especially with the AAC and the MWC. Something is telling me those 2 conferences will try to go to 16 teams and separate themselves from the G5

Yes, there is a real chance. Will it happen for sure? Don't know. It's going to depend on what tv partners say and how the money per school is affected since the CFP money is divided equally by all conference members. TV money plus travel savings would have to make up the difference of a smaller split of CFP money. If it doesn't happen this year it could still happen down the line at some point.

The conference did consider the possibility of 16 in the past. BB was quoted in the linked blog:
