RE: Conference Realignment News
There's too much smoke that USA has been in conversations with C-USA. Plus, it's message boards material. That's what we do here.

Conference Realignment News
Got to admit I've been out of the loop on USA/C-USA. What's the attraction?

Keeps the conference in Alabama, solid academically, solid in all sports, and is a compromise between the eastern and western schools.

The other school allegedly in the running is JMU.

RE: Conference Realignment News
Sun Belt just approved a new entrance and exit fee (2 million both ways) The way they worded the release, it appears the conference may have some news on the expansion front shortly. Sounds like some final negotiations are going on with a few schools. Does not appear we will wait on CUSA to act...and rather take the initiative on our own.

I know Liberty has been discussed. Whether or not it's the top choice though remains to be seen.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Last time around no one at LU could keep their mouths shut. This time around I've heard no rumors and its really quite. Maybe LU has learned to not leak info or LU really isn't in the convo and was only mentioned at the meeting in passing.

It's discouraging to hear Coastal was discussed. Coastal is years away from FBS. They averaged 8,000 a game last year. Sorry folks, but it appears it's anyone but Liberty.

Yeah its pretty crazy to talk about two schools (CCU and EKU) least FBS ready as serious canidates.

I wouldn't say it is Liberty or nobody but if it was between us and Coastal then we would certainly have the upper hand. Eastern Kentucky could be an option as they would certainly accept an invitation immediately like Liberty and have been campaigning publicly about their FBS intentions.

JMU approved their new basketball arena (and multi-use facility) and the state added the new legislation about student fees. This could be their last shot to pick their own destiny rather than be at the mercy of a committee which may or may not be in favor of adding another FBS school from Virginia which would water down each and thin out resources. And their issues with the Sun Belt (alleged issues I suppose) haven't been addressed since last year. It is the same group of schools so the academics haven't changed.

RE: Conference Realignment News
I lived near EKU for 10 years. They don't have the support from the community or their alumni for an FBS move. If UK and eastern are playing on the same day then only the most due hard eastern fans will be there and we're talking a couple thousand. Richmond is just to close to Lexington and if you're from that part of the state, you're not raised an EKU fan, you're raised a UK fan. EKU and WKY have been in a pissing contest for years and it kills some in the EKU adminstration that WKY has jumped ahead of them. EKU will have to raise student fees in a state that is one of the pooriest in the country. I'll be shocked if Frankfort would ever allow this to move forward.

If the Sun Belt invites EKU then I would be shocked if they didn't accept. It may be hard to believe that the Sun Belt would invite a poorly supported program if what you say is accurate but they will almost certainly accept.

EKU will accept in a heartbeat. They hate being under the shadow of UK.

I'd be happy if EKU accepts. It'd be good for The Great Commonwealth. I'd be happier if it were the Flames accepting though.

By the way, there were obviously no geography professors or novices involved in naming the Kentucky universities. EKU is in central Kentucky, WKU is in southern Kentucky. NKU is in the right place.

EKU is and always will live in the shadows of UK. Go on campus and I'd bet you would see more UK apparel being worn than EKU. EKU will have no choice but to raise student fees and that's where I would say it's wrong for EKU to go FBS.

Speaking of 3rd grade, I hear 3rd grade is the best three years of school for young Kentuckians.

Easy with the KY jokes. Lived in Lexington for 11 years. Some of the best people in the world and very white collar. Driving through Eastern KY will break your heart. The worse poverty I've never witnessed in the US.

Morehead St. is truly "eastern" Kentucky's university. And it is a very nice little campus.

In the same way, Murray St. truly is the "western" Kentucky university.

New Mexico State AD talks conference membership following Sun Belt meetings

Quote:"When talk of membership expansion came up, we were asked to leave the room because they are going to discuss us and other institutions. I think the Sun Belt is always looking at all of their options."

RE: Conference Realignment News
It makes too much sense, and would be a positive move for the SBC to add NMSU as a full member.
