Softball RPI - 4/6/2015
Here is the latest softball RPI as released by the NCAA:

11 - Louisiana Lafayette (gained 3 spots after sweeping GSU)
28 - South Alabama (lost 4 spots after sweeping UTA)
43 - Georgia State (lost 6 spots after getting swept by ULL & losing a DH to Furman)
57 - Troy (gained 7 spots after splitting with UAB and sweeping ULM)
66 - Texas State (lost 6 spots after beating Incarnate Word and losing a DH to Texas)
70 - Louisiana Monroe (lost 8 spots after losing to LSU and getting swept by Troy)
137 - Georgia Southern (lost 6 spots after sweeping App State)
145 - Texas Arlington (gained 6 spots after beating UNT and getting swept by USA)
182 - Appalachian State (lost 38 spots after getting swept by GS)

So aside from App State we had a net loss of 14 places…and 6 are from Georgia Southern sweeping the worst team in the conference

The whole league had a net loss of 52 places, and 44 are just from the GS-App series. Makes perfect sense.

Anyone who is worried about AI taking over the world, here is exhibit #4,556,721 of how machine learning is still extremely primitive.

RPI has always been a funny thing to make sense of as it's a purely mathematical entity based on a set formula. You have South Al sweeping UTA costing them four places but UTA gains six places while being swept.

It's not a perfect system, but it's much better than it was before Brian Benton and Coach Lotief made a presentation to the committee and got them to remove the extra bonus points that the PAC/SEC were getting from playing top 25 teams in conference. The Cajuns would go from a top 10 RPI to outside the top 16 losing the possibility of hosting without losing any games. It still happens to some degree, but the amount of change is much less.

They need to adopt a formula similar to baseball where a road win is worth a 1.3 multiplier while a home win is .7. A home win and road win are not the same thing.

That depends on who it is against.

we may be only at 145, but with a new coach and new facilities I see an upward trend.

Troy finished 2nd to last in the sbc last year and RPI over 140

I would say we made a excellent hire.
