RE: Baseball Rankings (w/o April 6)
Many of us season ticket holders can not make every game, but attendance I think is based upon tickets sold. I stayed home to go to my home church on Easter and I did not make the 90 mile round trip to Rice.

Eric's photo from Sunday looked as if about 100 fans made it

This raises the possibility that Rice must win the conference regular season or tournament in order to get into the NCAA tourney. Has that even been a concern since the NCAA went to a 64 team tournament?

Off the top of my head, Rice went the first year as an at large, from then to now, Rice has won either the regular season, the tourney, or both.

It was a 48 team format up through 1999 or so, wasn't it (8 regionals of 6 teams each)? By that time, Rice was well into the consecutive championship streak.

More to the point, there were seasons in there where a conference championship was in doubt but an at large bid was in the bag. I don't recall a year where Rice's RPI was above 40 or so.

Owls were under .500 entering April in 2000; ended up as the No. 2 seed at Houston's regional.

Speaking of RPI: Who would have expected that when Rice scheduled 4 game series with UT (78) and Stanford (133) they would have had such disappointing seasons?

I did not know we already got beat by FAU in the series. Oh well maybe I am getting too old.

I would love for my team to earn hosting rights for the regional and super regional rounds.
But it would also be fun for us DFW area fans to come out in force to watch us knock off DBU and TCU.

Finish strong and (regardless of RPI) we're hosting a regional.
