If you have been following the "Pick em" for this forum, It is down to me and another individual to win it all. We both have Wisconsin but by different margins.
It's going to be interesting.

UConn is tied with Duke; both have four championships. I don't want Duke to get #5.

Duke over UNC, any day of the week.
This pretty much sums it up. I used to have a lot more respect (not like as in a fan) for Duke before K got into the one and done stuff.
What do you mean " one and done stuff."
Recruiting guys (usually top tier talent) that will almost certainly only be in college for the minimum one season before they enter into the NBA Draft.
Some people argue that it is ruining the game of college basketball but conveniently ignore how the pig is slaughtered in the rest of collegiate athletics.
Who's ignoring that? There's plenty of things to hate about college sports. One and done is up there near the top of the list for me though. There's no incentive to even pretend to be a student for those guys. All they have to do is keep their nose relatively clean for 9 months or so and then it's over.

But who is really to blame? I mean these guys are ready for the NBA right out of high school anyway. The only reason they go to college in the firs place is because the NBA won't let them in. Who can blame them?

Therefore, the logical use of that excuse to hate Duke is that they didn't play by the same rules as the other programs and held themselves to a higher standard, ie. every player is expected to graduate.
So then, it looks like the hatred of Duke stems from:
1. (the perception of) white privilege
2. having a higher standard
3. success
Every one antithetical to cherished liberal beliefs.
Do you really believe this about liberals? Or are you just doing this so as to protect yourself from actually putting thought into your own political ideology?
Truthfully, I started this thread to try to flush out why anyone would hate what I consider a truly admirable and unique program.
I threw in the last sentence to pi$$ off the board liberals and elicit some snarky responses. Thanks for not disappointing.
It was an honest question though.
OK. First question: yes I do believe that "some" liberals see success through the prism that anyone or organization, that is successful, does so by cheating, stealing or in some manner, benefiting from another's loss. It's why liberals don't like winners in children's sports. Sports is just the metaphor for economic success. Do I even have to address white privilege?
Second: I'm quite comfortable in my political ideology as my posts over the last 18 months will attest.

I don't blame the players personally. I blame the system and the coaches who load up on these types of recruits.

I don't know why you'd blame the coaches though, it's what many of them have to do to remain at an elite level. Every coach in the country would likely take Jhalil Okafor, even for just one season.

Hard to hate Duke with Coach K leading them. Just my opinion but I think Coach K is the best coach, not only in college basketball, but the best overall coach in all sports.

I'm not sure why it's hard to understand how somebody could dislike a system like this. System, coach, school, player, NBA... doesn't really matter. I don't like it.

It's not perfect, but would you rather these guys not play at all in college? Leaving early is also not unique to this generation either. Even guys like Jordan, Magic and Bird all left before their four years of active eligibility expired.
There is talks currently of Adam Silver making players be two years removed from high school in order to play in the NBA. Would that be preferable? The whole college system for men's basketball and football is a sham anyway.
There is very little one and done going on at the D2 and D3 level but nobody is really interested in those programs.

Got to give it to Duke. They played a great game once they got down by nine. That freshman for Duke was the difference in the game.

Have to agree wityh Nomad. What UNC has done, and so far gotten away with, is far worse than Duke's entitled dynasty.
I dislike Duke for many valid reasons. I loathe UNC-Cheat for creating academic double standards for athletes with maximum effect on eligibility and minimal effort on the part of athletes copying course prospectus' as their final thesis. If there is a death penalty to be adjudicated, UNC-cheat deserves it hands down.

I've known three Dukies. One of our high school cheerleaders became a cheerleader at Duke back in the 80's. She was beautiful and very nice.
I still hate Duke.
