Rice vs. MTSU (Saturday Game 2)
I always am a bit anxious when Blake Fox goes up against an extreme right-handed, power hitting lineup. It's imperative that he keeps the ball down and stays ahead in the count....and the infield defense is strong behind him.

On the other side, JUCO xfer RHP Nate Hoffman has the best stats amongst MTSU's starting pitchers, BUT has averaged less than 0.5 strikeouts per IP, and has struggled with his control of late...

Season: 7 app, 5 starts, 2-1, 33.1 IP, 2.70 ERA, .217 BAA, 15 BBs, 3 WP, 4 HBP, 15 Ks

3/28 vs. ODU: 6.0 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 4 BBs, 2 HBP, 1 K

...given the low strikeout frequency and recent control issues, this would beg for Rice batters to take a very patient approach at the plate. Work deep into the count. Not only will this increase the chance of free passes, and get to the bullpen quicker, but if we can get ahead in the count we should get better pitches to hit.

Let's take care of business. Go Owls!

Again with the negative vibes Moriarity...Fox can and will pitch to contact. MTSU can't square up on the ball much better than they did yesterday. Fox will trust the guys behind him and they won't let him down. Enjoy the game and watch the big lefty show off his craft.

Seth Romero, remember him? He just gave up 4 runs in one inning to Memphis today. Memphis 5 UH 2 in the 8th. Memphis was helped by 3 errors in the inning.

I agree with Walt that the Fox needs to keep the ball down. I'm trying to visualize the ball not going over the fence when he's pitching.

Fox walks the lead off batter but has no trouble getting the next three. Owls are up in B1.

If a Blue Raider mates with a Red Raider, is the offspring a Purple Raider?

Once again the Fox works out of it with no damage. We go to the B2 0-0.

Yikes. I don't know. But I'm pretty sure it only has four teeth and knows how to make moonshine.

Blue Raider extreme shift works again. Wish we'd hit away from it.

Warren walks, Taylor gets hit. Gray, on the other hand chooses to hit into a DP. I think. Still decoding.
