Who succeeds first, GaSt winning or Liberty getting an FBS invite?
A slightly smoldering topic on the SBC board is the worse case scenario for CUSA. Within that context, there first is considerable mention made of GaSt and their lack of success in FB. Second, there's lots of post saying Liberty will never achieve FBS.

Will GaSt succeed in FB before Liberty gains FBS membership? The teams play in Atlanta on Oct. 3, 2015. Who gets the prize first?

Georgia State is already FBS and has opportunity for that first win...while Liberty is on the outside looking in. Answer: Georgia State.

If there's good left in the world, then Liberty will not be given a further opportunity to spread Jerry Fallwell's mission of hatred.

Every new person who google's "Liberty" is an unfortunate continuance of recognizing the man. I can only presume that Liberty getting into FBS will result in more of those searches and more clicks on their Wikipedia page and home website.

Georgia State. They actually hold a (non-FBS) win over South Alabama.

Georgia State has 12 games next year to 'win'.

They get Charlotte at home. They are probably favored in that one.
They get NMSU on the road. Not favored, but wouldn't be a huge shock if they won that one.
They get Troy at home. Not favored, but not impossible.
They get Liberty (FCS) at home. They are probably favored in that one.

They also get South Alabama and App State at home. Both of those teams finished 6-6 last year. Ga State will be a huge underdog, but its still 2 more chances at it.

I think they win a couple next year. I suspect their final record will be 2-10 (with a FBS win). But it could reach higher.

----

LU isn't going to be in the Belt next year. Or probably the year after that.

RE: Who succeeds first, GaSt winning or Liberty getting an FBS invite?
Liberty will eventually get FBS invite by swaps, callups, raids or indy. When they make FBS, their program will be a much sounder and stronger program than when GaSt entered. Years for GaSt to begin winning. Years for Liberty to achieve FBS. With Liberty being a private school without the public school resctriction, Liberty has huge advantage of support from admins and school prez. When and where and with whom or indy is the question. And Liberty will likely have FBS before GaSt has consecutive 6-6 seasons.

By winning, do you mean winning a single FBS game or a winning season?
Certainly if it's the former I'd say G State.

Georgia State makes a Bowl game (a more stringent definition of "winning") before Liberty sniffs FBS.

Liberty may eventually get into the Sun Belt, MAC or C-USA ....... but it will only be with University Presidents taking them while holding their noses, viewing them as an option of last resort.

They forced all their students to attend a ted cruz rally making it mandatory. I wonder if they will do that for football games as well.

The last sentence of the post says 6-6 season. That's not winning but that's GaSt at least playing .500 ball for 2 consecutive years.

Liberty would likely at this point hold any needed body parts to get an invite.

If they held a pen to paper to change their employment and student policies, they'd be much less opposition. None of the policy changes would involve violating any Bible verses either.

The reason why LU is on the outside is because their administration isn't willing to cooperate with the Sun Belt schools. They've made a few moves (such as turfing out Mat Staver as Dean of the Law School), but there's just too much of a gap remaining at this point.

The only way LU gets in is if someone gets desperate. That's just the way it is.

RE: Who succeeds first, GaSt winning or Liberty getting an FBS invite?
Liberty gets something like 5K students for football games. Everything Liberty has is so much bigger than what the average Big South school has. Their arena is 8K for basketball and 11-12K for their convocations; the baseball stadium is as nice as probably half the ACC; they have their own ice hockey rink; and their football stadium is nice.

I'm surprised they haven't started completely dominating every sport in that league. They already dominate women's basketball and have taken the mantle from Coastal in baseball, and they made the football playoffs last year.

I think Georgia State beats Troy and Charlotte this year, and possibly New Mexico State as well. Georgia State also beats Liberty in its homecoming game, so this means 3-9 or 4-8 for the Panthers.

We make the NFC South before Liberty gets an invite to the CAA.

That means we will have a HC vacancy in December

How has Liberty done in the I-AA playoffs since their call up in 1989? I know their MBB has lost 84 games in the last 4 years...in the Big South...

The App State fans on here made our trip to Boone's HC special last year .... You're making me look more and more forward to seeing the Georgia Dome! You better be ready for this little FCS cupcake!

2014 Georgia State 1-11
Wed, Aug 27 Abilene Christian Georgia Dome 38 - 37 (W)
Sat, Sep 06 New Mexico State * Georgia Dome 31 - 34 (L)
Sat, Sep 13 Air Force Georgia Dome 38 - 48 (L)
Sat, Sep 20 Washington Seattle, Wash. 14 - 45 (L)
Sat, Oct 04 UL Lafayette * Lafayette, La. 31 - 34 (L)
Sat, Oct 11 Arkansas State (Homecoming) * Georgia Dome 10 - 52 (L)
Sat, Oct 18 South Alabama * Mobile, Ala. 27 - 30 (L)
Sat, Oct 25 Georgia Southern * Georgia Dome 31 - 69 (L)
Sat, Nov 01 Appalachian State * Boone, N.C. 0 - 44 (L)
Sat, Nov 08 Troy * Troy, Ala. 21 - 45 (L)
Sat, Nov 22 Clemson Clemson, S.C. 0 - 28 (L)
Sat, Nov 29 Texas State * Georgia Dome 31 - 54 (L)

You may want to get your house in order before you worry about Liberty. 1-11 with your one 2014 victory against Abilene Christian. GaSt smack will be valid when the team can do it on the field.

Congrats to the MBB team as hat was a great NCAA victory. Football, which is the big dog, is another matter for GaSt. If we include 2013 that's an 0-12 for GaSt. That's 1-23 the two past years.

And 2012, in the CAA, the schools last year in FCS, another 1-11. That's a record of 2-34 since 2012. The worst enemy for GaSt is not Liberty, or the fans of Liberty, it's the status of the GaSt program for the past 3 years. In 2011, GaSt did win 3 games. Intense and over expressed frustration is understood with years and years of futility and losses.
