Does having a strong athletic program mean more ?

Might explain any odd fits that exist.

Probably not just curious academics get brought up a lot in realignment. Fans talk a lot of trash even making stuff up .
Some like to find a perceived weakness and run with it.

Anyway my guess is all P5 are at least decent.

The top of the.G5 is excellent

So how bad are the lower G5 or is the negativity just hype with little difference ?

Well, I'll go ahead and say that academics is the silent subject in a lot of the G5 realignment discussion. What is attributed to "market" or being "snooty" often is really wide disparity in academics and research and university reach.
Anything can be overcome to an extent, but you need to win a lot of football games to do it (and that includes good ooc scalps).

Academics play a role in every FBS conference. . Do you think the Big Ten adding Rutgers and MD was only about markets? West Virginia would easily be a part of the ACC today if it had the same academic rep as Syracuse and Pitt. BYU has been shut out of the PAC for cultural and academic reasons. Tulane was added to the Big East probably for academic reasons. Liberty would be FBS today if it had a better academic rep.

Then as soon as you say that, then you need to point out the exceptions. Louisville in the ACC, ECU in the American, Texas Tech in Big 12. WSU in PAC, Boise in the MWC. Miss St in SEC, etc.
