I guess recruiting is something he'll learn, huh?

I would imagine he'd hire assistants with recruiting experience. Dan D'Antoni is in that boat at Marshall.

That being said, if Bama offers serious money (supposedly they offered Marshall 3.0M!) then it's going to be hard for him to say no.

Yeah I agree money talks, but he is definitely is not going to VCU, that's just a troll comment

VCU? I'd be shocked if he went there.

I don't think White is on VCU's list. It definitely would be an upgrade for him though.

I'm not a La Tech hater. What I said was true. He isn't a candidate and the VCU job is better than the one he currently has. If the job was open, the ODU gig would be an upgrade as well.

La Tech doesn't have the means to pay $1M for a basketball coach and VCU can that is why it is an upgrade

Also Dan D'Antoni staff aren't going to blow the conference away with recruiting, actually I'm highly disappointed in our basketball programs recruiting

I don't understand why Bama won't hire Prohm from Murray State. He is a proven coach, and an alum. I guess Avery Johnson is flashier, but Prohm has an indisputable track record.

Looks like both interviewed but they're calling Johnson the favorite.

University of Alabama athletics director Bill Battle met with former NBA head coach Avery Johnson on Saturday to discuss the head basketball coaching vacancy at UA.

Although there was no immediate confirmation a deal had been finalized, Johnson reportedly emerged as a strong front-runner for the position and several media outlets in Johnson's home state of Texas confirmed he would likely accept the job if offered.

Battle also interviewed Murray State head coach Steve Prohm over the weekend, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.

odu paid the last coach 800 I believe. They can pay Jones more but an AD would be a moron to pay more than they have to.

Probably had a better interview, but what I have learned is that track record and proven results mean so much more than an good interview with a fast talker. Not saying Avery Johnson is that but just speaking from personal experience.

The University of Alabama is on the verge of hiring New Orleans native Avery Johnson as its next basketball coach.

Michael Casagrande of al.com is reporting Alabama and Johnson may make a deal as early as Sunday afternoon.

Alabama athletic director Bill Battle met with Johnson, 50, in Dallas on Saturday.

The St. Augustine grad, who played for Southern and who went on to a 16-year NBA playing career followed by a coaching career, has worked for ESPN since 2013 after he was fired by the Nets 28 games into the 2012-13 season.

It was speculated that Johnson would somehow become involved in the Pelicans' organization if there was ever a front office or coaching shakeup, but obviously he doesn't want to wait if the Pels ever do anything.

Because Prohm's name wouldn't excite the dormant Bama Basketball fan base. Not to say that he wouldn't be a good hire for Bama but the AD is clearly looking to make a splash name hire and Avery Johnson is a respected coach.

Zero college coaching experience...inherited Dirk Nowitzki with the Mavericks and after his first full season in the NBA either got bounced in the 1st round or didn't make the playoffs at all...Bill Battle picked "show" over substance...Anthony Grant's resume was much more impressive at the time Alabama-Tuscaloosa hired him

All true, what DL said. It's a high-risk move and I have to assume that 'Bama will invest some serious $$$$ in the assistants to make sure that recruiting and game-strategy is not forgotten.
