So they just absorbed the Western Wrestling Conference.

More importantly, it shows the B12 still has clout. In most conferences, 4 teams would have joined a single sport conference (like WWC). The B12 was able to keep its 4 teams in-conference and add 6 others.

I wonder why they couldn't reach a deal with the ACC? Did they not want to give up their name?

Well there goes the western wresting conference. So the Big 12 absorbs the whole conference.

So Utah Valley can win a B12 championship?

I did hear that Big 12 did contact the ACC but neither wanted to give up its name.

That said this is great for both the Big 12 and WWC. The Big 12 gets automatic qualifier status back and can have a proper conference tournament. WWC schools get to use the Big 12 brand for recruiting and the opportunity to play against top flight programs.

The WWC did have some strong programs in NDSU and Wyoming...SDSU has also been getting stronger.

I would hope that the Big 12 name brand had more cache than a single sport conference made up of non-P5 schools. Maybe the bar for "Clout" needs to be set a little higher. The article makes no mention of how this "expansion" came about. So we don't know if the 4 B12 schools were originally looking to go to the WWC or visa versa.

I'm kind of surprised the WAC didn't beat the Big 12 to this, as Grand Canyon is still homeless in wrestling. Air Force and Northern Colorado are already WAC members in other sports.

Of course the MWC could have stepped up themselves as it has 3 members, but Boise State wrestles in the Pac 12.

Interesting that SIUE wrestles in the SoCon, as it is essentially in the middle of the Big 12's footprint.

Surprised the big 12 went in this direction.

Maybe its time for Mizzou and Big 12 to make up. Mizzou should go back to the Big 12 in wrestling. UNI wrestling should go to the Big 12 as well.

Iowa St likely didn't want UNI in, as it would give UNI a big boost in that sport. The Big 12 needed two, so SIUe couldn't do it. Too much bad blood with Mizzou. The WWC probably acted as a block, either everyone or no one.

Maybe Air Force is reconsidering turning the Big 12 down, and Wyoming will join with them.
