Agree. Let's use every advantage we can to stop the losing streak to the Coogs. 05-mafia

We can give Rhoades a nice ovation at the spring game on Friday, where he was/is scheduled to be a guest coach.

Hmm, so are you suggesting instead of just a first pitch that he throws the first inning? Interesting... Anybody ever seen a SEAL toss a grenade??

Jeff Goodman just tweeted that VCU is now likely to offer the head coaching job to either Will Wade (who already withdrew from consideration - although that might have been because Rhoades was their initial choice over Wade?) and Jeremy Ballard, who is a current assistant at VCU who seems to be another riser in the coaching world. I think they should take a chance on Ballard - seems like it could be another Shaka Smart hire if they go that route.

This is really, really good news, but I heard that when the Barnes announcement was made last week, JK was already in high gear anticipating the way this might play out. This could not have been an easy and/or enjoyable weekend for him. Our thanks are necessary.

Absolutely. While going to games is geographically difficult, I think season tickets are now in order for me.

I had season tickets this year..but was only able to make one game..in conjunction with a baseball game at Reckling.
Now planning to re-up for better tickets for next season and put the ones I can't use in to the "Walt and Tiki" pool.
Coach Rhoades returning! Great news for the Owls and for the University Athletic Program.

Both good ideas. I am interested in season tickets (almost did it this year) and would like them available for use in marketing/promotions/whatever.

That's kind of funny complaining about us throwing big money at athletic department salaries. The world is truly upside down today - in a good way.

LOL....that was me :) Hey can't blame me when our former coach got tons of money to go to UT and then you guys up the ante and keep Rhoades (if that is actually how it all worked out).

You damn Texans! LOL.

Would love Rhoades at VCU. But like I said, I will still cheer for him to do well at Rice.

BTW, word is now he was not offered....or we couldn't come to an agreement....or big Texas money...or...who the heck knows.

Hi Brad:

Just as an FYI ... the LAST thing we have been historically known for is throwing big money at athletic department salaries. You must have us confused with SMU. :)

Sincere best of luck moving forward.

Have been following this story from the office all day. I've got to say, I am thrilled/shocked at the outcome. Once we started hearing about the salary possibilities at VCU, I assumed Rhoades leaving was a done deal. Major props to our athletic department and whoever may have stepped up money-wise to prevent our coach from leaving. It's a great day to be a Rice Owl basketball fan. Count me as another who will be increasing his number of season tickets.

I also wanted to say how classy the VCU posters were over the last couple days. I really appreciated their input and updates. Best of luck to them and their program in the coming years.

A million dollars? For winning ONE conference tournament game? I hope he stays, because it seems that he may be a decent coach. But, I'd want him to stay as per the terms of a contract he's already signed.

I don't mean this year necessarily, but I would expect that by this time next year, he will command that kind of salary, at Rice or elsewhere.
