I've been pondering the locked knees off and on.
All I could come up with was....Lock your knees and the move is repeatable from the waist down?
For awhile there, JJ got to the maximum spread of his legs when he was making 'em....I didn't get that stance either.
you do that and you'll pass out. that's what they told us in choir.
Never forget the "fallen angel" from the Christmas program.
That said, I think Dorsey locking his knees and faceplanting out cold during a freethrow would make sportcenter top ten. And he'd probably MAKE the shot...

It's proven effective and can't be more embarrassing than historic futility, can it?
If the embarrassment of missing so much isn't motivation enough, the prospect of becoming too much of a liability to have on the court should be.
That worked for Rick Barry not so much for Wilt though.

[Please have a sense of humor Memphis fans].
That isn't true. I still have my Final Four hat.
Are you wearing it right now? Otherwise it's sitting vacated.

Having straight/stiff knees before the stroke is a flaw that is very common among free throw shooters. This is something that I have been noticing for a few years now. Normally, guys with this flaw will bend their knees during the early part of the shooting process but completely straighten them too early. I suppose the intent is to try to eliminate as much motion as possible, but what it does is remove he "softness" and feel from the shot. Shaq and Austin are both borderline with respect to this which, I think, is why they are somewhat inconsistent, looking like a good FT shooter one minute and a brick-layer the next.

Wilt Chamberlain improved when he copied Barry, but went back to the conventional method, explaining in his 1973 autobiography, “I felt silly, like a sissy.”
