RE: Gregg Marshall
I have to think this takes Marshall off the table at Memphis. I can't imagine that we'll be willing to pay more than $3M for a basketball coach not named Calipari.

Much like Calipari...It will take a blue blood like UK, UNC, Duke, UCLA, etc to pry him away.

I don't think that's true at all.

RE: Gregg Marshall
Not thinking about it at all is prolly even better. So much time between now and then...starting with who is gonna be on our team...who will be the starting PG...what new assistant coaches we might have....who is going to rap for Memphis Madness......and so on
For the record...I don't think so either.

How will he reword his refusal? Just kidding - seriously, what would make you think this?

GP and his rumor mongering got Marshall a nice raise ... not the first time this has happened.

RE: Gregg Marshall
Yep, I too think Marshall is off the table for most any potential opportunity (maybe Duke, MSU or another real blue-blood). Using the approach used to hire Fuente, if and when (& no guarantee that either is any time soon) JP is replaced, a similar approach will be used to find an acceptable, probably up & coming coach from a smaller program that can be hired at a lower more reasonable salary & expected to stay at Memphis & build a consistently competitive program over a number of years.

I think WSU was a better situation in 2015-16 than Alabama.
Memphis might be a better situation in 2016-17.
As long as the $ is right, I think we have a shot. ($3.5M/per - and getting into the B12 wouldn't hurt)
We need Inidana to do well, but I still think they'd target Stevens or Alford first. Other than that, I don't anticipate any "major" jobs opening up.
Again, we'll need some luck, but I don't think he'd say "no" if the situation was right.

Parrish said Alabama would've gone as high as $4 million per year for Marshall.

They would've. I always said $ wasn't an issue.
It just came down to winning...

RE: Gregg Marshall
Who the heck do you all think we are? We aren't TN or AL. The defeatist mid-major attitude of our fans is disgusting. If we offered GM his current salary at WSU, he would be dumb not to jump to a basketball school with more prestige, recruiting, exposure, conference affiliation unless he was honestly waiting for a Duke or Kentucky. We have everything required to be successful except for the coach. Alabama basketball is a hot mess and if we were all in the same position as GM we would have given them the exact same answer. As much as many of you would shutter to think, we are an elite program in basketball. No we aren't Kentucky, Duke, UNC, or UCLA. We are however on the next tier with modern day Indiana, Arizona, UConn, modern day Texas, and so on. We have all the basketball resources and prestige of those schools without the shiny Championship banner. Our football program may be in the same breathe as the mid-major tier, but just because one guy has self-destructed basketball doesn't mean we aren't on one of the higher rungs and attractive.

He played AL well. Even took a visit which probably got him another $500k per.

Reminds me of Aerosmith's "Dream On".
You should get out more. Memphis isn't viewed as a major player. Just saying.
