Good for the western schools but still waiting on that rumored eastern bowl. Im hoping its in Charlotte.

Maybe Myrtle Beach? I think they were trying to get one last year.

That was Charleston, which would be great.

Charleston would be great. Hopefully that comes to fruition.

The Austin Bowl would be a great addition for both C-USA West and the AAC West, though I'd rather it was played at the soon to be renovated Rice Stadium and called the Bluebonnet Bowl.

Anyway, I think it is the best news of the off season if it actually happens.

I was hoping we could get a Houston bowl
But Austin will be more doable than Bahamas or Arizona

That's even further from Ruston.

With your tough ooc schedule it would be too much

Even with our schedule, we finished ranked ahead of Memphis and was the better team.

Middle Tennessee thought they were better than us last year too. We would have thumped Marshall...much like we did them.
THIS year would be a different story..as we lost a bunch of starters from last year's defense...but our offense will be much more potent than last year's squad.

Add to that the fact that Memphis was being looked at at the Access bowl slot OVER an undefeated Marshall team.
Who did that suggest that the voters thought was the better team?

Marshall did eventually make it into the committee Top 25 poll. Show me a link to any CFP committee poll with Memphis in it or this is proven bogus.

There are way too many bowls now. It's ridiculous. Average teams (6-6) shouldn't be in bowl games, only teams with winning records. I hope there aren't enough qualified teams and I hope some of these bowls don't make it. Rant over.

I'd love to see a San Antonio bowl too but Austin is a good location.

C-USA W is in great shape. Excellent bowls, close travel, decent rivals brewing.

If UAB can't get a team together Texas St would be a solid add to CUSA-W.

More bowls= more $ for the conference. We had 8 bowl eligible teams last year and only 5 bowls. Until we maximize bowl $ by placing all eligible teams in bowls, I'm fine with adding bowls. The SBC conf champ didn't go to a bowl as a transitional team so that's at least one more that should be in a bowl next season .

The more bowls there are, the less it means to go to one. This is what bothers me. Nothing else.

I agree. The bowl thing in college football has gotten silly. Just too many. I'm starting to think the Ivy League has gotten it right. 07-coffee3

I agree but why should a 6-7 UCLA be allowed to go bowling and a 8-4 LA Tech stay home?

P5 conferences started this crap when they decided to have tie-ins for their 10th and 11th seeds. I don't doubt these new start ups will start to pass up the crappy current bowls i.e. Bham, Indy, Idaho.

Truth is.....Memphis played in a weaker football conference last year and as a result had the best year its had in probably 30 years. Had it not been for the down year the American had, you guys would have finished middle of the pack at best. No doubt in my mind that we would have destroyed Memphis.

I'm guessing either LR or Cure will be on the chopping block when Miami exercises the trade option. I'm more surprised that bowls want to sign on with the AAC given the percentage of current contracts to teams.

It just means that AAC will have the highest chance of an opening which has the MAC salivating right now.

Yep, nobody will stay home now...good for those teams and fanbases. I was mainly thinking from the organizer's POV and sponsorship dollars.

(04-01-2015 04:46 PM)arkstfan Wrote:  Betting Cure because they are overloaded in the east.

Could be...depends on East/West balance. Currently, the AAC East is stronger than the West. Their bowls are split into two tiers. The first five must be filled (in no particular order) b/f any of the others. So, the remaining bowls are competing for AAC #6-10 (assuming no access or back up) which may or may not include a Western team. As everything cycles, Tulane, SMU and Tulsa should pick back up. How quickly? Who knows?

We went 7-4 in 2005 and sat our happy buts at home while some of the BCS schools got in at 6-6. The system seems rigged sometimes. I'll take a month full of bowl games over sitting at home for certain. I can also see the point of view that the gluttony of Bowl games takes away the importance of the event.

Re: Another potential Bowl for CUSA???
Some are speculating on the American board that the American added those bowl games to guarantee schools like Temple dont get left out like they did last year. Temple got left out last year for a reason.....the same reason they got left out several times while being a member of the Mac. One year they finished 8-4 and got left out. Why??? Cause they have no fans to buy tickets for these bowl games. No bowl committee wants to take them for that very reason.

I'd be a fan of raising eligibility to 7 wins.

It would be a fair way to whittle down the undeserving schools from both P5 and G5
