That segment was pretty stiff, but his standup is good. Looking forward to seeing how he handles the show.

Awful framerate, but good content:

If I want to watch news - I watch a news show. Don't get my news from a comedy show. If I'm in the mood for comedy, I watch a comedy show.

I remember seeing Jay Leno in Las Vegas before he had the Tonight Show (I don't think he had any show). I'm fond of the current-events style comedy... I'd like to see how he does, but I can't watch the Daily Show day-in and day-out. But this stand-up bit is really good.

I'm sure he's a really funny guy. I guess what bothers me about the whole daily show is how many young folks actually consider watching this show as "watching the news". This show isn't watching the news. It's generally a show where a comedian makes funny snarky comments about political leaders - mostly Republicans.

Is it funny - yep, but it really isn't "the news".

I found it mildly amusing, and certainly instructive, that for a good part of the day on Monday, this was the lead story on the front page of HuffPost.

Notice nobody is mentioning his tweets that have already gotten him in hot water?

I mean even the Today show made note that he's made some strong anti-semantic comments.

RE: A meaningful piece of news = WGAS
I don't really like these sorts of shows though I love Weekend Update. The difference to me is that nobody confuses weekend update with actual news. I think Tina Fey, much as I love her started to move this direction but she was balanced by another comic... and some of it was so silly that you couldn't take ANY of it seriously.

These sorts of shows blur the lines too much and far too many people can't tell the difference between comedic satire and actual politics. All you have to do is see how many people quoted SNL caricatures of Bush and Palin and Clinton and thought they were things that they had actually said. It's not the show or the comics fault... but it DOES create political power.

If these are the tweets, then it seems like much ado about nothing. He shows a slight partisan tilt against Israel, but nothing that concerns me as far as antisemitism.

I thought this tweet was funny, but it got Mario Balotelli suspended for something like three games (noting that Balotelli was raised by Jewish parents).

Because social commentary on current events is such an unnatural medium to use for humor? Be more old + out of touch.
