I think you mean Polio. I see no reason as to why curing people of the desire to ride on horses and whack a ball with a stick is going to help with curing cancer.

Wow. Great news. I have a friend staying in Duke's oncology housing now as he recovers from his chemo. Duke is an amazing institution.

There's a vaccine for chicken? I knew people ate too much of it but wow, who knew there was something that stops it from entering people's system.

The researchers call it the Pollo vaccine because it sounds better than Chicken Pox vaccine.

Easier to explain that way to the public.

RE: DUKE!!
Expect RNA and DNA antisense to get to the market first. There's some really great possible cures in the clinic for genetic diseases by those methods. Antisense can work for cancerous cells too.

They also claimed they cured cancer in 2010. Turns out the doctor fudged the trial results.

60 Minutes Story

Great news if true, but I'll wait for the full story.

Saw the tv special last night. It noted it could take the FDA a year to "fast-track" approval. Now, I know that's a lot quicker than it used to take the FDA, but still seems like a long time give the encouraging results seen so far.

Gene therapy using viruses will not be fast-tracked without exhaustive trials. Gene therapy is a new field that could potentially have recasting consequences for all of mankind. While there is reason to be optimistic, there are many things that can go wrong.

FDA has a new "Break Through" category with which it can fast track approval. By fast track I mean maybe a couple of years instead of like 12 years.

The FDA refuses so far to allow it on Duchenne MD. A new antisense drug actually causes dystrophin to form so for the first time since birth these boys are forming their own muscle tissue, but the FDA has not been interested in fast tracking or declaring it a breakthrough.

Those boys have been given a death sentence because the FDA wants more proof by cutting open more kids with a muscle biopsy, so the drug can't even be voted on by an FDA panel. Most DMD boys stop walking by the age of 8. These kids can still walk and breath normally and haven't had failing hearts at the age of 12. DMD is a fate much worse than most cancers, with most DMD boys dying an excruciating death by the age of 20. The FDA is very cruel.

Damn, that sucks. However, I would think if there is a legitamite cancer cure around, public pressure would make the FDA hurry the hell up, at least by their standards.
