March 27, 1992: Memphis State Defeats Georgia Tech
In the greatest victory of the Larry Finch coaching era, Anfernee Hardaway scores 24 points and contributes 7 assists as the Tigers defeat Jon Barry's Yellow Jackets in overtime. The win sent the Tigers to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1985:

How was that GT team a 7 seed? 3 NBA players on that team.

Forrest had a great game. Did he ever play in the NBA? I know Matt Geiger did.

Here's an article on Forrest from a few years ago:

I was at that game. Made the trip with my dorm buddies from Robinson Hall to Kansas City for the regionals. That was the most exciting Tiger game I attended in person. Of course, the 31 point beatdown 2 days later put a damper on the trip, but still a great time

I'm guessing it was the mid 90's the networks started putting the score and game clock on the screen continually during the telecast. Watching that game made me realize how much we've gotten used to it and really need it.

I remember watching that game with my brothers, it was a great time to be a tiger. Even though we lost to Cincy in that blowout on Sunday, it was fun to hear that people either didn't show up to church or the churches let out early and people were rushing home to watch the game.

Kansas was supposed to be the showcase at Kemper Arena, but they had gotten knocked out by UTEP.

We drove up to Kansas City, KS and easily got tickets (the scalpels seemed to outweigh the attendees), and got our money's worth from that first day. They next day, I recall sitting in a sports bar and watching the Duke-Kentucky game that Laettner won one the last second shot.

Kemper Arena, KC if memory serves ... I was there. Concourse was electric with Tiger fans after that win. Spent the next day watching Laettner hit 'the shot', then yet another shot at Cincy that Sunday, which didn't go so well unfortunately.

Greatest tournament game I ever attended. At 1:39:19 I am celebrating with David Vaughn's grandfather. What a team that was.

People were less distracted in those days. No posts to make between dunks.
