RE: Basketball Offseason
Speaking of leaving and I don't want to get ahead of myself but after next season if Kellon and Jimmy Hall graduate (they will be in their 4th year of college) they can transfer and not have to sit out.

So fast forward a year. Our whining nmesis hurley gets a "bigger" job and since his father has a relationship with Jimmy he could land there for a season.

May sound crazy but see Bryn Forbes and Trey Lewis from Cleveland State.

RE: Basketball Offseason
I do hope that we're building up positive feelings in Kellon (taking care of him with the injury) and Jimmy (giving him a scholarship when he was 'damaged goods').

But the whole graduate free agency really should give any head coach second thoughts when choosing to redshirt an incoming student. The coach is hoping to give a student a fifth year in school and get back a player who has 4 more productive seasons.

The student can instead apply himself and get his degree in 4 years, and see if there's a better option for him for his 4th season. The school loses on its investment in the player. The coach would have the incentive to encourage the student to go slow with getting his coursework done, so he doesn't graduate in 4 years

RE: Basketball Offseason
I personally do not like this latest trend/fad for players looking for a better deal after they serve their time with the school that recruited them (back-end one&done). But that's life in the ever-changing landscape of D1 college ball. I also believe that speculating on what underclassmen will do one or two years from now may good fodder for a BBS, but nothing more.

The basketball fan in me doesn't like it but it does give them some incentive to graduate which isn't all bad.

Updated/corrected
13 scholarships & 13 players:

Guard(s) for next season: Deon Edwin, Kellon Thomas, Xavier Pollard, Jalen Avery, Devon Andrews, & Jaylin Walker.

Forward(s)/Center(s) for next season: Rosel Hurley, Chris Ortiz, Khaliq Spicer, Jimmy Hall, Marquiez Lawrence, Marvin Jones, & Rasean Davis.

All,

Whatever happened to Rosel Hurley (6'6" Wing from Shaker Heights HS that went to Prep School this season and then was supposed to come to Kent State.....is he still coming to KSU? Headed to another D1 school? JC/CC?)

GoFlashes7,

You have Marvin Jones listed twice which throws off the numbers I believe. I can't think of anyone missing. As for Hurley, I have no reason to believe that he will matriculate at Kent State in the fall.

I'd be very surprised if Thomas did. I don't see Thomas being a guy that can be a big minutes guy at a major school. So the best he could do would be move to a better mid major school. So as long as we're still good, why leave?

Hall would be more worrisome especially if he thinks it could get him more exposure for NBA scouts. Unless he makes big strides between this year and next year I don't see him as a guy that can dominate at a high major though. Also, I like to believe he'd remember that we took a chance on him.

Thanks Dannyb73, I know he was a heck of wing talent coming out of Shaker Heights HS. Do you know how he did @ prep school this year?

I don't have his stats, but from what I understand, he had a nice year.

It's a good thing that Jaylin Walker signed in November. I wonder if Nate Oats taking the Buffalo head coaching job would have changed his commitment. Oats coached Walker for his first 2 years at Romulus.

Cornell graduate transfer Galal Cancer tells ESPN he's visiting Kent State this weekend. East Carolina, George Mason, others involved.

Thanks Dannyb73. Who is the odd man out for next year, if Galal enrolls @ KSU? With Akbar leaving KSU & Hurley coming to KSU, I believe the scholarships available (13) to players (13) is full.

Here is Galal Cancer's player bio/stats page from the Cornell website: http://www.cornellbigred.com/roster.aspx...rent_stats

He didn't play during the 2013-2014 season (I am guessing injury, but it doesn't elaborate).

RE: Basketball Offseason
I don't see the need he'd be filling. 6'2" guard, not particularly efficient scorer. Not a big 3 point shooter. Maybe he's a plus defender? Can't tell that from a stat line. The only way this makes sense is if the coaches don't expect the freshman guards to be ready to play. If that's the case then this makes a ton of sense because you're plugging in another rotation guard that will be gone in a year so he could bridge the gap without being a long term road block to the freshman.

Everyone you are expecting will be here. One person is going to pay his own way next season which would allow us to sign Cancer if there is mutual interest.

Can't find much, but it looks like Hurley was a regular on a team that lost the championship game of the 'National Prep Championship' tournament. See http://www.imgacademy.com/sports/boys-ba...ional-prep
