Rice vs. USM (Friday)
Usual left-handed lineup...

Quote:Rice Baseball ‏@RiceOwlsBSB · 34m34 minutes ago
Rice starters tonight vs. USM: Chandler-cf; Stainback-2b; Byrd-ss; Reeves-c; Taylor-dh; Warren-rf; Gray-3b; C. Teykl-1b; Williamson-lf.

We really need Connor to break out of his 2+ week long slump.

RE: Rice vs. USM (Friday)
Good matchup for McCanna tonight, as USM has only 2 left-handed batters in the starting lineup. Hopefully, he's got command of his breaking ball.

I'm expecting a low scoring game. Of course expecting something in baseball is a good way to frustrate yourself.

94 on the first pitch to Chandler in the first. May he be wild tonight.

Get them on. Get them over. Get them in.

Time to put the game on McCanna's back. He will get it done.

RE: Rice vs. USM (Friday)
Strong start for Kevin. He gave up a two-out single (which could have been ruled an E-5), but was pounding the strike zone, getting ahead of batter, and recorded two strikeoutsKK.

Chandler 4-pitch walk. Now, let's not waste it this time. Opposing pitcher throwing 93 - 95 mph.
Stainback doubles down the line. Runners on 2B and 3B, no outs. Let's get both in. Need to put the ball in play here.
Byrd first pitch deep sac fly. 02-13-banana Runner on 3B, one out. Repeat. Again, have to put the ball in play here.
Reeves strikes out swinging. Really bad AB for JC.
Taylor infield RBI single! 02-13-banana Thrown out trying to steal on first pitch.
Nice start all around. Let's keep it going.

Good guys take a 2-0 lead heading to the top of the second inning.

Two runs in the first for the Owls was a happy surprise. 2-0 after one. McCanna looking good so far.

Taylor's hit was a soft liner that fell in front of the right fielder.

Yeah...I was too lazy to change it. Was getting a cup of tea when it was hit!

Kevin gives up another two-out single, but nothing more (strikeoutKKK, two fly outs).

Warren foul pop to SS.
Gray first pitch pop to 1B.
Teykl first pitch ground out to SS.
6-pitch inning. Not exactly working the count against a pitcher who was wild in the first inning.

Good guys lead 2-0 heading to the top of the third inning.

Good grief-- first an E-3 on a slow hit grounder, then a wild pitch/passed ball that gets by Reeves. We've got to stop beating ourthelves and gifting runs.

...and a pickoff throw sails into CF! Second error of the inning, plus a wild pitch. Stainback was late getting to the bag. We are horrific in holding a runner on 2B.

Didn't matter if Ford was late - throw was over his head.

RE: Rice vs. USM (Friday)
Kevin works out of a trio of defensive lapses, putting a runner on 3B, to escape unscathed (ground out, fly out, foul pop).

Williamson hit by the pitch. Let's capitalize on leadoff runner.
Chandler first pitch line out to SS. Fortunately, Williamson learned his lesson from earlier in the week, and got back in time.
Stainback struck out swinging. Might as well send JWillie down.
Byrd struck out swinging.
So much for playing small ball and trying to manufacture a run. Situational hitting is non-existent. We never move runners unless with get base hits.

Good guys lead 2-0 heading to the top of the fourth inning.
