RE: CMU's Guevara inks new five year deal
How does CMU come up with $200,000.00+ for a women's basketball coach? Where does it come from? Boosters? Student fees? Just don't get salaries in the MAC with no attendance beyond students. The UT Athletic Dept is asked to generate so much more revenue than the other MAC schools. MOB is worth every penny we pay him.

Unfortunately, even UT's WBB attendance figures don't pay the bills for the WBB program.

Equity in Athletics website http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/ says UT's WBB expenses were ~$1.9M in 2013-2014. (In comparison, CMU was ~$1.4M.) Total UT attendance in that season was ~63K. (CMU ~19K) So, unless every one of those UT fans paid more than $30 a ticket, that's not even close. And the ~1.9M is only expenses directly attributable to WBB. The University book keeps another $6.5M in expenses that are not tagged to a specific team. I'd guess (but am not sure) that the costs of running Savage facility are in that pot, given that is shared between MBB and WBB and VB. So, maybe you need $40 or $50 ticket prices to cover the real expenses. So, most all schools have to subsidize WBB, it's just a matter of how much.

I'm glad UT has the great fan following it does, but without big TV contracts, or big advertising dollars, the school is still likely gonna need to subsidize a bit.

Thanks northcoast...I was wrong in my assumptions about UT WBB income. Keep on attending and backing the Rockets.
