I am at a loss how players such as Magee do not seem to develop or at least "fit in" under Pastner's system.

If Dominic was a high level player he would not have transferred to GCU. Much of Pastner's problem is very poor talent evaluation. He goes by rankings as much as fans. Many of our 'highly rated ' players DID NOT have real high level offers.

McGee wasn't a college PG. Where does everyone get this notion?

If he had the skills to play PG, he probably wouldn't have left before this season.

Pastner should have known this before he offered him, other coaches did. Everyone associated with the program knew this as soon as he started playing against our players ( players that could not even make the NIT ).

Pastner's recruiting prowess is a mirage. 03-shhhh

It was always a head scratcher of a signing, after we brought in Woodson and Burrell.

Well he's gotta figure something out. He can't get the players UK is getting. We might as well face it, the kids coming out of Memphis alone aren't good enough to get us to where we want to go. Cal learned that and now Josh is too. Gonna have to get creative.

I don't think Memphis kids are the issue.

Bob Huggins built a powerhouse in Cincy using primarily JUCO's. So, it can be done. Then again, Huggins can actually coach basketball and command respect.

But mostly, he and Cincy were unconcerned with their academic short comings.

Oh common. Lets not kid ourselves. Memphis is no academic powerhouse. I grew up in the city and we used to call it ***** ****.

My post was in specific response to your example of Huggins using JCs at Cincy.

the program also gained a reputation for a rough style of play and academic under-performance. Huggins routinely graduated only 30 percent of his players, compared with half of non-athletes at UC. Several of his players were also arrested and convicted on criminal charges. The program was placed on probation in 1998 for a lack of institutional control

UC President Nancy Zimpher forced him out after 16 years, giving an ultimatum that he resign or be fired within 24 hours. Zimpher made it clear that she didn't think Huggins and his basketball program fit into her sweeping new academic plan called UC|21.
...she emphasized that Huggins' players had not met academic standards.

She said she had "reflected on his historical track record, especially the academic record of recruits."

He had offers from these schools:

Memphis, Alabama, Arizona, Houston, Kansas St., Louisiana Tech, LSU, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Texas A&M, Tulsa, UCLA

Granted, these are not UK or Duke, but they aren't chopped liver either. So, all of the coaches at these schools are poor evaluators of talent?

We prob had the best backcourt in America with Joe, Chris, Dixon and Geron. I mean that was a high level backcourt and we still couldn't win. So I don't think one point guard at this point will change anything. It would have to be a grad transfer or something and there are no difference makers out there at this stage. Only hope is that Kedren discovers he can't sing and focuses on basketball where he could make a living playing overseas or u can have Markel play some point but not really his position. Maybe KJ could run some point I dunno if he handles good enough to play point in college though. I don't think there is much hope for the pg spot or for Josh. U can't lose so many players and expect to be successful. I still don't understand why pookie was just basically benched the second half of the season. It makes no sense but neither does a lot if things he does.

The guards weren't the problem. There were no rebounders to get the ball out to them on the break. Joe Jackson often out rebounded Tarik Black.
