Pastner should stay after a down year and leave after a good year.

#thegoodfans

Wrong.

He should not feel pressure to leave after one down year that came after several good ones...but since he was treated disparagingly after that one down year...he should leave on his own after things settle down.

Then the same who have been teasing him...our coach...not just being constructively critical or recognizing of a down season, will mock him more for leaving.

Like many, you are looking at this backwards.

You're looking at it backwards, not me.

All coaches feel pressure/heat in down years.

Its the nature of the beast.

It may not be fair, may not be right, but that's how it is.

Memphis is not unique in that regard.

Tennessee has offered the job to Rick Barnes, and the two sides are closing in on a deal, sources told ESPN.

He had oodles of talent at Texas. I don't know if he will at Tennessee.

NOBODY will take the job.

Its Texas dude. TEXAS!

You win or you're out. You telling me nobody would take a shot a millions!?

Trust me they'll get what they want. Barnes has been talked about for years as being a lousy coach who can't develop talent. Sound familiar?

Check your sarcasm meter. Just sayin'.

Good hire by them.

I don't recall anyone ever calling Rick shady. I think he is held in high regard. He's in his 60's so he'll likely be in charge of re-setting the program and getting it functioning properly for the next guy in five or six years.

Al lot of people overrate and underrate the money. Barnes will get a final payday at Tennessee. Tennessee will get a coach that is not a sleazy D-bag. Tennessee will be a middle of the pack SEC team. Someone will take the job at Texas and get a payday. The question is the caliber of who takes the job. Will it be someone wanting a payday or someone that wants to be a successful BB coach. Basketball will always be second or third fiddle in Texas and in Tennessee.

excellent point

Plenty of people will take the job and since when did it become the gold standard to make the NCAA tourney? 68 teams make it it's big some huge accomplishment or anything. It's Texas there are lots of guys who would take that job. He has underachieved year after year just making the tourney with four and five star recruits all over your roster is not some huge success. It goes back to the whole thing do u believe in him. Once people no longer believe in a guy it's hard to get that back. Even if Pastner has a great year and makes a deep run I still don't believe in the guy u have seen enough to know that he's not a leader or a guy who has what it takes to coach at this level. He may catch lightning in a bottle with the Lawson's coming in with Nichols and Shaq but he still will not consistently win because he's not a good coach and has no leadership ability. Guys don't believe in him thus they don't play for him.

Gold standard again. Link?

LMAO.

Half and half then - the rumors came out that GM was ready to jump from Wichita - they made their move to get their man.

It's not coincidence that Barnes and Texas part ways this season.

Wes Rucker @wesrucker247

With Texas and now Tennessee, what’s obvious to me is that Rick Barnes just doesn’t like paying state income taxes.

Looks like the Texas AD started with Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, & Brad Stevens. Marshall & Shaka also in the mix...

Apparently Marshall is a little to opinionated for the AD's liking.
